US Airways considers cutting its E-190 fleet

US Airways considers cutting its E-190 fleet
US DoT Filing: Republic Airline, Inc. | Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation
Management at US Airways has launched an evaluation of elimination its fleet of 25 Embraer E-190s through direct sales or subleases.
Today during an earnings call with analysts and investors carrier President Scott Kirby said the fleet represents roughly 2.5% of total consolidated capacity at US Airways, and cutting the fleet would give the carrier additional flexibility to reduce its available seat miles.
Kirby also explains the E-Jet represent a small sub-fleet whose elimination could also create operational gains for the carrier. The aircraft are also in demand globally, so US Airways believes getting rid of the E-Jets is something the carrier "can effectively implement from a financial perspective", says Kirby.
US Airways owns the 25 aircraft, and company chief executive Doug Parker stresses the potential cutting of E-Jets from its fleet is not to raise liquidity, but to enhance long-term profitability.
In August 2005 US Airways issued a request for proposal to regional partners Air Wisconsin, Mesa Air Group and Republic Airways Holdings to operate up to 25 E-190s once it merged with America West.
But after mainline pilot protests a transition deal was ratified by America West and US Airways pilots to limit E-190 flying to mainline operations.

Why swap anything? How about just take the aircraft. Doesn't Airways owe money to RAH. They could just simply right off the loan for a specified amount of aircraft. Instant assets with no payments. Easier to turn a profit that way.
By the way, this is all speculation that RAH will get those planes.

Republic has enough on it's plate. In this economy would it really be wise to be EXPANDING WITH 16 AIRPLANES (25-9)? That's a lot of new markets and a lot of new growth.
Not only that does Republic really have the money to buy two complete airlines and buy (forgive debt... whatever) 25 aircraft all inside of a few months? That's a lot of $$$.
Yes this is all speculation and will not be surprised if any of this does not happen.
But Doug himself said these aircraft are in high demand. The way I see it they also just happen to be in high demand by a airline that said they are replacing an entire fleet with them in the very near term yet have none on order.

What money are you talking about? $6 million in cash for Midwest? The Frontier deal is mostly in financing and has no bearing on RAH's cash position, they are simply assuming Frontier's debt. Do you understand Corporate finance?

A little interesting tidbit is the USAir 190s are owned! So used would probably fetch 30ish mill a piece. Republic doesn't have that kind of scratch with these other deals in the fire. I figure if USAir gets rid of these birds they will go overseas.
