Sounds like a very insecure, miserable young man. My guess is that his fantasy of what flying was going to be like didn't match the reality he created for himself.

That's pretty lame, are you seriously surprised that he threw it in the trash? A little simple thing like "look over the AIM, since you don't seem to know non standard stuff" would have hurt his pride a lot more than actually forcing it upon him. LOL If I was him I would have taken that AIM and taped it on the panel the rest of the trip for reference.

Funny, when somebody shows me my errors, I say thanks for keeping me from getting violated next time.

And IF the guy is a jerk about it, I STILL take his guidance to heart.

He would make wrong calls to them and then call them the idiot. Heaven forbid if a controller wouldn't answer him on the first try.
I just don't get it. Here is a new pilot who won the lottery and got an airline job after only being a pilot for a year. And he is chuck yeager. He flew fine and i don't have any issues with that. It just that everybody is an idiot according to him, from rampers to gate agents to flight attendents etc... I would try to correct his lack of knowledge with explaination but he never wanted to hear it. I gave him a copy of important parts of the AIM and 10 min after departure it was in the garbage.
Just basic basic uncontrolled airport stuff. How to get a clearance, reporting points etc...He just didn't want to hear it.
Anyone know how to educate a brick wall?

Just to clarify, was this other pilot your Captain or your F/O?

Joe

Thankfully there aren't too many jerks we have to share the cockpit with, but when you do, it can make for a pretty negative experience. The few times this has happened to me I just shut up. I mean, really, do I really think I am going to turn Mr.********** into a positive person? I am fortunate in that 95% (or more) of the time I have really great crewmembers, so this is not so big a problem. My philosophy? Don't make the job any harder than it has to be. Don't poke your co-workers with sharp sticks. Pay attention to flying the airplane. Treat people the way they want to be treated - with respect. Remember that the FA's are standing up back there. Sterile cockpit below 10,000', unless it's a really good story.

Unfortunatley, the few scum bags that get a job in the industry ruin it for the great men and women who work for the industry as well.

Have you contacted Pro Stan? I'd recommend that before making a post on APC about it. Much more effective.

This is why i gave him part of the AIM....

We are boarding the airplane, waiting for paperwork....15 min to departure, at uncontrolled airport.
F/O on FSS Freq:"Airline 123, Looking for clearance to xyz".
FSS:"This is FSS, Airline 123, where are you?"
F/O:"In xxx airport"
FSS:"Airline 123, are you airborne or are you on the ground?"
F/O:"On the ground" in a harsh tone.
FSS:"OK, ATC clears Airline 123, to the xyz airport, via....hold for release"
F/O:"Cleared to xyz, via..."
Captain:"I think he would like you to say:"ATC clears Airline 123, to the xyz airport via....holding for release".
F/O:"He knows what i mean". swears about the controller.
Then i said:"When you call up FSS, they aren't ATC. They are just a middle man, and they are listening to 100 freqs. So you need to tell them your call sign followed by what freq you are transmitting and recieving on.", Then when they get back to you, you can tell them you are on the gound in xyz airport and looking for your cleanance to xyz airport."
F/O:"The guy was being a ____".

I could go on but you see the problem here, we have low time pilots that have ZERO GA/Airline knowledge. I don't get paid to be a flight instructor anymore but this is Private Pilot stuff. And he gets rude to the controllers for his lack of knowledge. I don't care if the guy fly's like crap just as long as he doesn't have a horrible attitude.

Let me guess.. PSA? We got some real pieces of work in the last hiring wave. Amazing those few retards that made it through considering all the washouts I heard about in indoc classes.

This demonstrates a severe lack of knowledge having to do with basic piloting principles, and procedure. This individual you speak of, who will not even attempt to better him or herself when given the opportunity, even when provided literature with the correct procedure for their reading pleasure, is a danger to all passengers aboard the aircraft, as well as all aircraft participating in the national aerospace system.

Due diligence Mr. Seafeye. Contacting someone who might happen to be in a better position to persuade this individual to correct their dangerously poor habits might be in order. Well in order.

Best of luck,

So are you saying that at 1500 hours the aim doesn't get changed anymore? Well guess we better tell the feds to stop publishing that darn blue book that every one calls the bible because an FO has 1500 hours:rolleyes:

Pride has no place in the cockpit!
