You should instead be concerned about being based overseas!

Alright, as a current XJT FO, here's what I see happening. All that is posted is fact, I'll get to the speculation later.
-Dec 28, 2005, Continental Mainline announced, per our capacity purchase agreement (CPA)with them, they were going to be taking back 69 of our a/c and having someone else fly them in CAL colors.
-Under the CPA, ExpressJet had the option to sublease any of the airplanes that CAL was taking away from us.
-CAL awarded the flying of our airplanes to CHQ.
-in April 2006, XJT informed CAL that they would be keeping ALL 69 airplanes in the CPA.

Now, for the speculation... There are so many rumors going around, and I do not know all the details of the CPA and the CHQ contract. I do not know if CAL is putting out a new RFP for the flying AND the airplanes, or what. The rumor that I heard is CAL was going to try to cover some of the lost flying with their 737s. (A carrier taking back flying with bigger planes! what a concept!)

We have heard just about every rumor for what those airplanes are going to be doing, and going along the original timeline, suppossedly we should be finding out where those airplanes will be going in the next 30-60 days. They are good ERJs (LRs and XRs... XRs are the ones with the wingtips and as far as I know, we are the only ones flying them. Embraer finnally got it right on the XR.... It is hardly ever weight restricted.) Until then, everyone here is in limbo. Like I said, the last two paragraphs are SPECULATION! I know NOTHING other than hearsay. But, everyone seems upbeat on what we will be doing

How can you say that they shouldn't be concerned with being furloughed? Are you a member of the hiring department or something. They, as of now, have NO plans for those planes.

Actually they DO have plans for those airplanes...you just haven't been told what those plans are...YET. And I would say I am close enough to the hiring department to say any XJT new hires should not be concerned about being furloughed.

On a side note, I see you are a 170FO...I am speculating you work for CHQ and you are pi$$ed you will not be stealing XJT's flying from CAL so instead you spread BS rumors about XJT. Is that about right?

Not spreading rumors, just don't see how you can tell potential applicants not to worry about getting furloughed. I must say though, that you did get awfully defensive, which makes me wonder(as should others). btw chq has no 170's

I'd be defensive too if my company was going to base 69 airplanes in HONG KONG and send my junior behind over there for 5 on 2 off reserve!!!!!!

Articles in journals and papers as early as Monday claim that ExpressJet is still trying to place those aircraft and they are working feaverishly on closing a deal for the Chinese flying.

Mesaba told all of us that there would not be furloughs and our flying would increase if Northwest went into bankruptcy. Now our airplanes are going to the desert and we have 146 on furlough. DON'T believe ANYONE that tells you about job security in this business.

Have any links to back this up? I'm just curious.

If one of them (looks like Saturday instead of Monday.) I am looking for the other that ran this week. It spoke clearly of a "team" of managers from ExpressJet that are over in China working to close a deal similar to or competing with Mesa's plan I assume. If I find it, I'll post it...I know I read it somewhere just the other day.

It is driving me NUTS that I can't find the ExpressJet China article. Did anyone else on this board see it the other day? I think it was a sidebar link off of ALPA's website, but I can't find it now. I remember it specifically talking about the "team" ExpressJet had overseas trying to lock in a deal.

If anyone else has the link, please post it!
