ASA United Flying?
For the last few days, the buzz around ASA has been some "big" announcement. The rumor is that we have a new 5 year contract with United for flying out of IAD with 15-20 airplanes.
Has anyone else heard this rumor? Is it true? How many pilots would be sent there? Would it be junior or senior?
Just speculation, but it's fun to think about.

1st off- the RFP is for 52 airframes, 2nd off- the announcement from UAL is not expected until the beginning of the year, 3rd off- this is only a bid- not any guarantee that the flying will exist, 4th off- every regional thinks they are getting it, 5th off- chances are pilots will be on the street for another carrier's benefit.
Lovely industry.

In this economy, all the regionals will be bidding right at cost to attain this flying. The lowest cost regionals besides Mesa is Pinnacle and TSA/GoJets. Someone just ordered 50+50 airplanes. I doubt Skywest will get this flying, UA has never been willing to pay more for quality. Pinnacle and TSA are both similar to Skywest/ASA in operational metrics anyway.

Dont know what u mean about united not wanting to pay for quality... We operate almost the same amount of flights as mainline and the closest to compare is Mesa and we fly over 3 times what they do.... Yes it is our contract with United but we are also doing something right that UAL mgmt has given us the flying out here on the west coast and such..
I really wouldnt be surprised thou that ASA got some "love" out of IAD.. Turn some of the CRJs into "ASA" colors that can be used on both sides... But again its all speculation until its on a press release..

There will be no news nor big announcement. Someone types that stuff on here that they heard from a guy who heard from someone that talked to a guy in recurrent......
ASA is one of the highest cost regionals, if not the highest because of high longevity and a good contract.
Look more for ASA to continue to lose out and be pinched by Delta and Skywest for years to come.

thats probably alot of the stuff Chautauqua currently does. Just picking up the extra lift from when they are cut the end of the year. By the way enjoy those wonderful hotels up in Montreal!
