There was a similar situation in an "island city" during the feeder bands of a hurricane.
Unnamed Airline (which you all can figure out) cancelled their jet flights and brought in the Dash 8's to operate, something about tail wind component, landing on a dime, and better overall in crappy weather. Another airline, we'll call BabyWidget, had a plane stuck at the airport until the winds were going in a good direction to take off (we had 90 degree crosswinds for a bit). Note: Every other airline had already cancelled their flights, and we were technically the last departure. We had our ops radio tuned to the tower, and there was some banter between the "Trash 8 driver" (yes, this was said) and those in the BabyWidget jungle jet... the BW drivers were getting cocky about the Dash 8 "omg, haven't seen one of those in ages, didn't realize they were still airworthy" - DH8 captain fired back "yeah, those new jets are pretty, but I have seen you sitting here while we've taken off and landed 3 times today.." The BW drivers just wouldn't leave it alone and made a comment about their jet's powerful engines, so when the Dash 8 was cleared to take off, it appeared to be a full engine run up with breaks on, breaks released and it was airborne by the 1st takeway turn off - which was about 1200 feet. Right after Tower told them to contact the Departure, tower even chimed in , laughing "now that's what I call a takeoff". Jungle Jet had to sit for another 25 minutes as the winds exceeded their crosswind tables :) |

I had the chicken enchilada platter from Pappasitos in IAH tonight. Got a long day tomorrow. Feel sorry for the guy I'm flying with.

I would have gone with Panda, but Pappasitos is very good airport food.
I was on the fence and couldn't make up my mind between the 2. The Bistro (I think?) with the Bourbon chicken is pretty good also, but I usually have not so good results with that also. The new place in C had awesome stuff, but you need to take out a second mortgage to be able to afford it. Got a pizza, drink, and a banana, $14, ouch. |

=airborne by the 1st takeway turn off - which was about 1200 feet. = No other T-prop can do that! That's why dash driver doods have pride. Dash performance is greatest amongst the t-propers. It can do what no other plane, other than a high performance military transport can. |

But most citations ARE slow... I've had to slow down for them on final and I fly a caravan.
