Citation vs Dash 8 CLT
>>Here is a funny little story that happened to me at CLT. We are holding short of E2 on E near the approach end of RW 36C waiting for departure. There are 2 ways to access the runway, continue on E or E2. There is an Airbus holding short on E and E2 is free. We are holding short of E2 because we have not been instructed which taxiway we will use to enter the runway. Tower tells a regional behind us to hold short of 36C on E2. The regional acknowledges the instructions then asks the tower if he would ask the "Slowtation" to pull ahead so they can have access. Of course the controller asks us to move forward. I respond "sure, but I wouldn't call Mach .92 slow"! After a few seconds pause the other pilot replies in a little "I just upgraded to Captain voice " 250 below 10". I know it was the Captain who responded because further transmissions from this aircraft was a female/different voice. At this point I decide not to dignify his response and drop the banter. As we continue on E and are now holding short of 36C, I am able to look over to my right and see who was calling us slow. It was a DASH 8!! Are you kidding me??? We operate Citation X's. First off I would like to say that his initial comment was unprofessional and if your going to attempt to insult another aircraft, you should definitely be flying something more sophisticated and faster.<<
The other day, the copilot I was flying with told me he had read a thread on this forum about a Citation vs Dash 8 event in CLT. Imagine my surprise when I told him of my recent encounter in CLT. It was the same one. I was the DHC-8 Captian in question. Today, I signed up with Airline Pilot Central in part, to shed some light on what happened.
Everything is true, except for the fact that even though the Citation heard the CLT tower clear my aircraft to taxi to and hold short of 36C on E2, the Citation, (who was not holding short of E2, but was in the middle of the intersection), just sat there, blocking my access to the runway. After at least a minute, I did suggest that the Slowtation move up so that I could access the runway. From my perspective, and the fact that the Citation captain has acknowledged he heard my clearance, he was just being the stereotypical small jet driver who though his being in the way would get him in the air quicker. The "professional" thing to do would have been for the Citation captain to put two and two together, and by the process of elimination and in consideration of the fact that the tower controller was probably not blind, taxi forward and give me access. The 250kt comment was made by another aircraft. And yes, my F/O was female. As for the "I just upgraded to Captain voice", for the record I've been flying for 28 years and am 50 years old. I do not sound like a new guy. In the future, please excercise some courtesy and move out of the way. It's not all about you. PS: If you can handle an X-Box, you can press buttons.
