What was Republic's strategy / purpose to get in Hawaii anyway? Did they want to try to put Mesa into bankruptcy so they could pick up some extra UAX flying if they liquidated?
This has just been a big waste of money for RAH, but they have a ton of it. At least BB cut his losses early, compared to JO. Mesa USED to have a ton of money, until Hawaii and China.

Could be very interesting. RAH is in negotiations and may really tick everyone off by getting a better contract. If the integration can work out to protect MidEx jobs, that's a big positive as well.
What will be even more interesting will be the possibility that unlike elsewhere, if one unit of the wholly owned group were to go out on strike, the entire group would go out in support of the striking pilots. That would create tremendous leverage against the parent company.
It's called "trade unionism."

I'm pretty sure it was to keep the 170s flying after RAH lost their flying with Frontier. It's expensive to hold leases on aircraft, and at that time nobody wanted additional aircraft due to the high oil prices.
