Gotcha... sorry, I looked for it, and didn't see it.. my apologies!

And yeah, that loophole is disturbing, but at this point, we need all the help we can get! I have a lot of friends calling me this afternoon who are "crushed" about this passing... Of course, none of them have made it to an airline yet....they have no clue....This will probably persuade a lot of people in training to say screw it.

1500 total time + no flight training loans available + below poverty pay = the GREAT PILOT shortage of 2015-2020. Let's all hope the senate makes it 2500 just to be sure. Better QOL will be here in the next decade. I hope the senate kills the college option, that is complete BS and counter productive.

What are the chances aviation universities will hike up their tuition rates if their programs are able to "bypass" the ATP requirement?

20 years from now the next generation of pilots (unless we go to drones) will be talking about the good 'ol days when tuition was only $150K.

I don't know how much good it will do but it is worth trying...use the following website to find out who your senators are and how to contact them to let them know how you feel. However, ripping them a new one is not the appropriate method. They have staff that read their e-mails and screen their phone calls. So, be informative, polite, non partisan (hardest for me), and intelligent in your contacts.

I'm all for more experience, but the loophole is such a joke... have a couple of pinks and no aviation degree? Good luck getting hired. Have a degree from ERAU and a littany of failed stage checks? Welcome aboard, SKy King!

I was really hoping most pilots would be very careful about jumping the gun on this and now I bet some will gripe, but all we can say is we got exactly what we asked for, with a few changes courtesy of the lobbies' (AND DONT TELL ME YOU WERE SO NIEVE THAT YOU THOUGHT IT COULDNT HAPPEN) The ATP provision is still in there, its just now they will allow credit for certain flight programs. Basically if you attend Embry Riddle you will now qualify for an ATP at 500 ( or some arbitrary lower number) instead of 1500 hrs, or thats how I read it. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we screwed ourselves. So now we will still have 500 hour pilots in the right seat, but they will now have an ATP instead of a CMEL. That is all we accomplished.........
