Default Colgan's fatigue policy....

Ahh yes.... the kinder Colgan:

Beginning immediately, fatigue calls will not be accepted:

1. If the crewmember has had a period of at least 12 hours rest prior to the start of the duty day.*
2. If the crewmember is returning from days off.
3. For future or downline flights. That is, a crewmember cannot declare “I’m going to be fatigued on my next flight”, or “I’m calling in fatigue for tomorrow”.

*Mitigating circumstances that prevent a rest period from being fully utilized will be considered when determining whether a fatigue call is acceptable.

...

The Safety Department will ultimately determine whether a fatigue call is acceptable or not. However, a fatigue call that is not accepted will be referred to the Chief Pilot or Inflight Base Manager for disposition.

...

Any further blatant abuse of the fatigue option will be addressed as a disciplinary action, and fatigue resulting from an improper use of rest periods or personal time off duty will be treated as missed trips. This policy begins immediately.

god I love this place.

Hopefully this gets passed along to the house and senate members still working on the aviation safety bill.

Wow. I'll bet the press would love to get a written copy of that policy.

I guess you guys are not allowed to get a bad night sleep.

Someone needs to send that to the Buffalo News, the Wall Street Journal, and the USA Today.

... so you are nearing the end of a 14 or 15 hour duty day...
  • night flight; 5th, 6th or maybe even 7th leg of the day
  • the weather is crap
  • held on an arrival and diverted earlier in the day
  • the airplane has multiple MELs or maintenance issues, possibly no autopilot
  • nothing is going right; the flight is already delayed; passengers are irrate...
But that's okay. You got your 12 hours of rest before you started your day. You couldn't possibly be fatigued.

What a joke. I certainly hope this email gets passed along to the big newspapers. Please do that, in fact.

Unbelievable and unacceptable. Someone at Colgan really should send a copy of this to the media. I think it would be great to see them on the news within the week.

Can someone post the full e-mail with the name of the person who wrote it? I will be more than happy to contact the news networks myself tomorrow or on Monday... I already made a few contacts there.

Disclaimer: I've started drinking already. Happy New YEar

If this came out in a memo, please forward it to the press. Any press. Buffalo news, USA Today, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, I don't care. It needs to be out there. This needs to be made public. If this same policy comes out at Pinnacle, I will forward ours to whoever I can find email for. It would be worth that whole "you speak to the press, you're fired" thing.

Also, if ALPA hasn't already started fighting this, they are useless. USELESS!!! If they aren't making this public, I say shame on them. This is exactly the kind of information that the news and Congress needs to know, if we ever expect anything to change.
