I'll bet everyone who does this gets to share the same apartment.
On a serious note, internships at no pay are a routine part of American business. I'm not so sure there is a legal challenge to this scheme.

The CFI will have to get his/her parents to continue to subsidize their career. After all, if they continue to persue a career in aviation, they will not only expect mom and dad to give more and more money, but also room and board.
How may FOs at your regional airline are sadly still living with mom and dad?

It said $0 dollars in the salary so I thought maybe it was a misprint. Then I read further and it said prior to submitting your cover letter please note this is not a paid position. The only compensation we can offer is free room and board and a vast abundance of PIC hours. (How is the CFI suppose to eat!!!!) Gosh this one just irritated me sorry for the rant.
The board, in this case, is a synonym for food. I assume you know that... but you never know.

What I'd like to know is what are the students being charged?. Are they paying for a/c only?. Very doubtful. Most likely it'll be packaged without itemizing it (a/c + instruction = total fee). I'm sure those "CFIs" are going to be huddled in a shack near the airport resembling a third world country prison (8x10 room with 4 cots for 10 occupants, and a bucket). To each their own.
