I think I have a friend that works here. If it is the same school they owe him like 3000 grand in past money. They put you up in an apt and make you dinner outside on the grill everynight. What type of planes do they fly? I'm pretty sure he is flying alot of diamonds.

Using you CFI to act as a safety pilot for free for a guy that owns a plane and is licensed already is one thing. Doing actual instruction where there is a much higher risk to yourself for free is just stupid. I'm desperate for flight hours but I'd never do actual instruction for free.
If there is anyone actually considering this, print up some business cards and hang out at your local FBO and talk to people. I've gotten to ride along with a bunch of aircraft owners and gotten some time that way on top of the normal paid instruction I do. Not only do you build a little time but you meet people and network. You never know when or from where that good job will come your way.

An internship would not require responsible charge of anything; in this case and aircraft and student. If you have the responsibility of an instructor, you couldn't possibly be an intern. The intern would be the guy riding in the back of the plane learning how to instruct, and would provide support duties to the CFI on the ground. He or she would not be PIC

This CFI ad just makes me sick! If I lived near this school, I'd be out front picketing. Why do we sell ourselves so short in this profession? Just because we enjoy our career and need to build flight time? It's totally ridiculous! If you know a student pilot or CFI, you need to mentor them and tell them about these kinds of places and their predatory practices. We're professional pilots and we need to paid like professionals!

You need to tell your friend to get the heck out of there and find a real CFI job. If he can't, then maybe he needs to take a job outside of flying to pay the bills until the industry starts to pick up again. Working for free is not the answer. In five years, these CFI's are probably going to be the same people who will complain to everybody just how little money we make in this profession. Pilots are their own worst enemies.

The job is unsustainable. The flight school is probably in the same position. Any type of owner/manager who would think about not paying an employee isn't to swift when it comes to business. The employees will be miserable which is going to make the students miserable and not want to train. Someday in the near future this place will be out of business.

It isn't this school, is it? The cheaply designed and perpetually under construction website, and the "low cost" training packages, coupled with zero information about it's owner, instructors and staff, feel like a place that would do this: Rip off students, not pay instructors and laugh all the way to the bank.
