No joke, take a look at the airline profiles and do the math with the handy calculator provided. I don't care how fun the job is $9.85 per hour equivelant is just not worth it. Stop the insanity

I avoided the regionals for years refusing to take the pay cut. But after closing down two 135 companies, and seeing the mainlines only wanted 121 time, I gave up and took the pay cut.

Now, if there is a mainliner out there who can forward the resume of a guy with 7 years of 135 all PIC and 3 years of 121, please PM me.

We've had a few guys here at ACC go mainline, delta, ups, fedex, one just went to Air tran. So i guess it is possible to go 135 to mainline and bypass the regionals. I too do not want to take a paycut to fly passengers, so I will wait.

I would love to be able to walk resumes in to my legacy carrier but my job has been outsourced. Unless regionals start shrinking mainline won't be hiring anyone with 121 or 135 experience until age 65 hits.

I don't feel the least bit sorry for not a single one of you suckers.
The pay wouldn't be that bad if no one took the job. Chuck Colgans resume inbox should be empty no excuses. At 1000 bucks a month the "i have a family" crap just dosen't fly. The worse part about it is you guys are sealing your fate to low wages and crappy QOL for the next 20-30years. Enjoy the PB and J/bags of tunna and the top ramen.

I was tossing around the idea of trying out Colgan. I've done 7 years as a "regional" pilot, so I had no illusions of what the pay and life style are like. I was out of the game a couple years and Colgan was one of the few options to get back in at the present time.

I must say that Colgan's hiring process is pretty whack. They have no idea of what they've told you in the past. It seems they can't plan more than a few days into the future. A couple times I was offered interviews, but always within a week of when I was contacted. I had no time to get off of work, etc. This last time I knew they were interviewing the 16th-17th and ask if I could interview then. I was told "No, that's too far away and I'm just trying to take care of getting interviews scheduled for the 3rd". This was the end of last week.

Luckily I have gotten a better offer. I'm glad I held out and didn't jump right it at the very first chance. I don't feel quite so cheap anymore.

A few months ago I was dealing with a lot of uncertainty regarding my current position, and there really wasn't much out there. I decided to try the Colgan interview for the experience and also as a backup in case our flight dept was canned. The interview was a very good experience... Pretty thorough, I learned a few things, and I also knocked some rust off (it had been awhile since I took the ATP written). I have to admit, I was initially a little excited about possibly working at Colgan. Chalk it up to the post-interview high I guess.

Anyway, several weeks later I was offered a class date. Fortunately things had settled out at my job, and my job was now as stable as anyone could really hope for in this economy. Despite that, I was still pondering a career at Colgan... I've got several contacts at FedEx and AA, and figured Colgan would be a good experience builder for those companies. But after calculating the numbers, I just had to face the reality that I couldn't live on that salary. At least not the way I want to. I enjoy being able to have a beer every once in awhile, eat well (in a nutritious sense), do crossfit workouts, and just not totally stress out over money all the time. Although Colgan is expanding, upgrades were still going to take years so I didn't see the point in chasing the upgrade either. I finally told Sara that I appreciated the offer, but I just couldn't do it. It simply is not enough money, and I don't see how some of these guys make that much of a sacrifice. I think my odds of having a good QOL are significantly better in the part 91/135 world compared to 121. So far I've been right.

The really sad thing is that there are people on these forums that defend (or at least used to) the company. If you are dumb enough or desperate enough to work here how can a union help you??? The company can smell your desperation for a job a mile away. I am guessing contract negotiations are going to go real well with the endless supply of people willing to make 1150 a month. Some of your pilot group doesn't even realize how poorly they are treated and paid in comparison to other regionals FLYING SMALLER EQUIPMENT!

15 more Q's coming this summer... awesome!!!! thats another 75 fo's below the poverty level... you all should be soo excited!

All in the name of a quick upgrade so you can make as much as first officers at other regionals... brilliant.
