Just to clarify, Skywest AIRLINES does not own ASA. Skywest Inc owns both Atlantic Southeast airlines and Skywest airlines. So they are considered our "sister carrier" So if you are referring to the Skywest AIRLINES website it would not say anything about it because they are a completely separate airline.

Skywest Inc came to be after a merger with Sun Aire in 1985 apparently. I googled and found an article with this ..
"The merger also resulted in forming the holding company SkyWest, Inc., with its three subsidiaries: SkyWest Airlines Inc. (changed from the earlier SkyWest Aviation Inc.), National Parks Transportation Company for the Avis rental car business, and Aviation Services West, Inc. for the fixed base operations."

History
SkyWest, Inc. became the parent company of SkyWest Airlines in order to facilitate the transfer of the sale of Delta Air Lines, Inc. subsidiary, ASA to SkyWest, Inc.

SKYW Inc. HQ wouldn't happen to be in a medium-sized desert town in southern Utah, would it?

From the new website "We have a fresh look and a new vision to connect more people, more often to the places they love, by becoming the world’s first super regional carrier."
Why a regional airlin?. Just say airline flying small plane under someone elses name.

Same way AMR owns American and AMR Eagle. It is a typical corporate structure. Just Like Republic Holdings owns all of the carriers. There is nothing special about this.
I suspect that ASA may "acquire" Mesaba and Compass or at least be awarded some assets in the future, with Pinnacle getting some of the OH stuff.
That is just a guess.

personally I think the rebranding is because when people used to see that ASA logo on the side of an RJ coming towards the gate it always represented a late arrival or departure...this gives em a fresh start?
