ASA hiring OTS
#51
Several thoughts after reading these 5 pages:
1. Anyone coming here now must realize the full scope of what it means going to the bottom of this merged list (which hasn't been merged yet). ExpressJet has ~150 furloughees, and they will be senior to you. This means they could force their way back, and YOU could end up on furlough if growth doesn't happen!
2. Know going in what quality of life is like at ASA. Read here and flightinfo for some insight. ASA treats reserves worse than an ugly mutt hound dog. You will have no life. Period. And you will spend several years on reserve. The merger will preclude any real growth, because since ASA has their hands full with the merger, SkyWest Inc will give anything that comes along to SkyWest Airlines.
3. It is unlikely that any newhires will go to the 700/900. The most recent award gave the 70/90 to many current 200 pilots, which means they plan to back fill the 200 with new hires. QOL on the 200 compared to the 700/900 is night and day. The 200 does 4-7 legs a day of flights mostly an hour or less on 4 day trips. The 700/900 does 2-4 a day, most flights 1-2 hours. QOL on the 200 is so bad that people who can hold a line with weekends off on the 200 are opting for reserve on the 700 for a better lifestyle!
4. DR does not represent the typical ASA pilot or ASA manager. I'm just saying...

To answer some of your ' Finer ' Points there, CT;
1. The merger will bring more opportunity, not less, and we've brought everyone back from furlough, offered positions to Xjt will soon be taking OTS as well. Add to the fact we've gotten more flying for the winter and added airframes....I fail to see your logic and believe the merger will provide for the better in place of staying stagnant and proceeding Sans Merger
2. QOL is a function of flying and block hours and when you get hired. Reserve here has been rough lately due to the lack of crews and that is now being addressed. You start as a reserve you need to expect certain things and less of a ' consistent ' lifestyle, but most of these people are hiring on from ATL area and will be around the house a LOT some months and very little on others. ( Not hooting and hollering or Rah-Rah BS here for ASA, but once we're properly staffed things run pretty well here )
3. 70/90 is a senior bird for FO but on the lower end of the spectrum for CA it is a Jr. Bird..or rather it used to be. I hold weekends off in ATL and IAD but I chose to work them cause they're easier and I like the overnights/commutability of them. And, a typical schedule for me is a 4 day with a mix of 3,2,2,4 or 2,4,3,3 and sometimes 1,2,3,3 legs per day and i've got 17 days off next month...and have ZERO plans of moving to the 700/900 to chase a ' better lifestyle '
And as for # 4, I've no clue what or who DR is so I can't comment or speculate....
Hope this gives some better insight to anyone trying to hire on !

Last vacancy bid put several junior pilots into the 700/900. I'm guessing there's not a wait anymore.

As I understand it, they were modeled after the XJet rules but many of the provisions were not strongly worded and several more are simply not enforced. I don't know how much better it is at XJet but being on reserve at ASA sucks!

There is talk of another class, and the one on the 11th has been enlarged by 9 people.
