Anyone in the know think that XJT will hire off the street anytime soon?
Seeing as they have recalled almost everybody, maybe they would hire early next year to have folks ready for the summer?
Opinions? Thoughts?

Ordinarily I would agree with you. But with the merger and the current realignment into the United Express system, it seems all bets are off as far as staffing. My best guess? With ASA doing some hiring now and the way staffing is around here, you may see some modest hiring in the beginning of 2011. Any hiring beyond that is going to be dependent on hiring/attrition at the majors. Seems like most people who are going to jump ship already have. The folks left here now are either lifers or treading water until hiring picks up at the majors and they are in a position to move on. The floodgates won't be open again until the age 65 retirements starting having an effect at the majors.

Expect about a 100 to be hired off the street in the first quarter of 2011 to cover additional UA flying and increased block hours on remainder CAL (based) frames. I should warn you that it will be a lot more competitive than before as there will be plenty of qualified applicants (my guess 3000+ time with ATP), and as I stated in the ASA hiring thread, anyone hired after August 4th at either company will not participate in the integration of those hired before such date.

Also keep in mind that hiring for XJT will be done by ASA in Atlanta once the merger closes, which is expected to be Nov 10. I only mention this so the interested applicants know to start looking at the ASA gouges.

Has the new UAL decided how their regionals are going to be slotted into the program? If not, I'm guessing UAL with ask for competitive bids from just about every regional around. I think if this occurs, companies will have a better understanding as to where they stand. Who knows with this biz? I never thought Trans States would own Compass - who fly under Delta.

I would be very surprised is ASA does any hiring on the XJT side until the joint seniority list, joint contract, and full integration are settled. Until then there's too much uncertainty to predict staffing needs. Especially for a company like ASA that can't even predict their staffing needs under perfect conditions.

I expect the new UAL scope to include all a/c currently flying (Props, CR2, CR7, E170 and ERJ’s) with a max # set at the total levels currently operating but becoming more restrictive as contracts expire. I also expect the current contracts to survive the merger (see DAL/NWA) until their expiration dates then all bets are off.
I am in favor of ALL flying being in-house. The main reason why I see all contracts being up held is due to the penalties that UAL will incur from cancelling them. It would be far cheaper to pay off the pilots with either bonuses or large pay increases then cancel these contracts.

Just to add: There are a lot less lifers here than you'd think. I didn't get hired on in the last round but jumping at the first good opportunity that comes around. That is what Id say about 95 percent of the pilot group is planning on doing. Once they announce new hires for XJT/ASA its gonna go fast. This company is not known for it's planning.
