As soon as you get married you are granted the work permit. The green card process vary greatly on location. If you are moving to FL, TX, CA, AZ, It can take as much as 3 years to finalize the green card process due to high volume of applicants...
I have been through the process, and did not have any problems getting a job with only a work permit and a pending green card status.
Best of luck.

Wow, thanks for your help porqueno. I'll start firing off emails now. Fingers crossed something will come of them.
s10an, thanks for sharing your experiences, it's certainly encouraging. I didn't realise that the work permit happens so quickly after marriage. Where are you originally from if you don't mind me asking?

To add on to what ^^ said...The work permit, aka USCIS, I-765, Application for Employment Authorization needs to be submitted every year. If you work for an airline that requires you to travel out of the US, you will also need a yearly USCIS, I-131, Application for Travel Document. Both these forms have filing fees, biometrics and take about 2-3 months to process. To make sure that you aren't stuck without a work permit, you'll have to file approx. 4 months before your authorizations expire. You can apply for these the same time you apply for your Greencard, which is the I-485 and I-130. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/usc...004718190aRCRD
As mentioned above, you can work using the I-765 until you get your green card, which should take no more than 12-15 months since staffing at USCIS has now increased.

I am doing the JAA conversion now though... Like some of the other posters have said, the job marked here is not promising for a pilot.. I'm going back as soon as I get the JAA license.

I am from Norway... I did the initial paperwork with the American embassy in Norway... Dont really think that mattered a whole lot though.. Still took a long time to get my green card application processed (I live in FL)

Hi guys,
Please forgive this newbie question.
I'm a British JAA airline pilot currently flying in the right seat on the Jetstream 32 in Europe. I've been flying for a European version of a part 121 regional for just under two years now. My total time is is about 1,200 hours, 840 of which are as an FO on the J32. I also have just over 50 hours on the Airbus A320, but the company I was with went bankrupt a month after I joined.
I'm getting married to an American next month and I'm going to be crossing the pond to live with her. Once I get the green card etc I'm going to be looking to get onboard with a regional at the first available opportunity.
My basic question is this; what are my chances of getting into a regional (ideally on an RJ) with the following times:
1,200TT
840 SIC Turbine
50 Airbus A320
890 IFR
150 PIC
Plus JAA Jetstream 32 type rating and JAA Airbus A320 type rating
JAA CPL, Instrument, Multi & FAA CPL, Instrument, Multi and ATP writtens
Many thanks in advance
