Yes it was kind of odd that it doesn't say how many they need. It's like they enjoy giving false hope right around the holidays.

If they sent out 54 recall notices they'd only get about 15 yes responses...then they'd have to wait another two weeks and repeat the same action for another 39 guys....which they would get even less yes responses...and so on. It's been 2 years at a miniumum for the furloughed so maybe mgmt is thinking "well we know most people have moved on to better and brighter things....or are already flying for other airlines so we might as well ask everyone."

Also you noticed that the wording is pretty open ended as to how many guys might be needed. "We are also planning classes for Feb and March." Might mean they just want to know in case they indeed DO need more than 54 warm souls.

[/like I said, I have no idea whats going on but it's a thought]
Hey Bud, I agree somewhat...but rumor is that there aren't as many deferrals as they thought. Many people, like myself found a job after their furlough...(luckily)...but that doesn't mean they don't want to get back to flying airplanes.

Food for thought: some guys 'flying at other airlines' had to resign their seniority number. I know waterskiers that went to Mesaba had to. These folks are not on the up to date seniority list that i saw....I believe about 130ish were on the furlough list including voluntary furlough guys.

In any case are you planning on staying at the Pear Tree or what?

I agree. You'd think that the guys on the bottom of the list gave up long ago on recalls and found something else. The guys at the top are probably more willing to stick it out.

Hey Purpleanga,

The message from the union says 54 recalls...yet the company sends out 130 letters? Maybe they've got something up their sleeves?

Agreed with the majority of your post here! The only thing is that we're probably getting caught up in the rumor mill a bit.

While the guys I know who went to Mesaba are no longer on the seniority list, those who went to Compass/G7 remain.

At this point we're all just going to have to wait it out. I'm still working at my job but G.D....TSA would be an improvement!

I'll do the Pear Tree again if training is quick...otherwise I'll have to find a way to slum it....the long drive is already going to be tough!

Maybe 129...They have my correct address and yet I did not get the recall letter.

Had I received the letter I would have to pass until a mandatory recall is out. How should I proceed in this case? Call, ask for my letter and differ it? Or leave it alone since I'll be differing it anyway? Like I said I still plan to come back but not until a mandatory recall is issued.

Thanks and good luck!

Don't do anything if you're going to defer it

Yea there's something wrong there, I know someone that lives as far from STL as you can get and they got it 2 days later.

Seeing that they're waiting for confirmations, you should probably tell them that you didn't get it but that you're going to pass.

i dont think it matters how many accept the voluntary recall, i think a mandatory recall will be right around the corner once enough of the first wave wash out. washout rates were comical during initial, just wait til we get a couple days of training. also, the last i heard, pear tree has a happy hour room with free beer and food 5-7 m-f. i wanna be in training as long as possible.
