Gary,
By your admission the USPS pays twice as much as your flying job. You also have mentioned that you already have health insurance which leads me to believe that you are getting it from your spouses form of employment.
You have described yourself as "not young, nor have I ever had money". I don't know how you can justify being away from home for a job that pays half as much as a mailman and even try to feel good about it. You are cheating your family out of income that everyone needs for your own self serving wants.
If you are indeed an adult then you should be considering putting the needs of your family ahead of yourself. The long term effects of pursuing aviation over a stable career in the postal service does not make sense.
Love your family more than your job.

Hey, save the pointless arguing for the Gojet threads... How about we return this one to the current/former waterskiiers and talk about the company, not about your personal thoughts on the regionals in general, eh?

I can live off of 35K a year. I think I can even feed and cloth my family so they don't die of starvation or winter for 35K/yr. But to "support"? I think you and a lot of people have a different definition of support.

Anyhow Gary, I shouldn't have told you that your priorities are out of line. You continue flying for the love of it, and I'll continue flying for money.

I agree. I need a lot more money than $35,000/year to live. I enjoy the finer things in life like a house with a bedroom for every kid, two kids, two cars made in 2002, a date night once a week with my wife, and a very cheap vacation once per year. It takes about $70,000/year minimum to live my quality of life. $35,000 is fine if a spouse is making the other $35,000, but then someone has to babysit the kids when I'm on a trip. For me, that's not possible so I have to make the entire $70,000 by myself.

I should of not said everyone should be able to live off 35,000. It really depends on what geographical region you live in. As for me, cost of living is quite low, I actully live in a home I had built in 2001, fairly new, with 3 bedrooms 2 baths, and I finished the basement by myself. Of course I would love to make 70,000yr and be able to go out once a week with my wife, install a inground swimming pool, juccussi in my new sunroom, a couple new cars, but for now I am fine with what I have, and actually my teenage daughter can only think of a couple of things she wants for christmas, becouse she has everything.
But come on lets all get along and quite bashing on each other, and start bashing on some AE and GJ people
