Hi everyone!
I hope I get the answers I need here. I have read in different sources that AMR Corp is again considering divesting AE, this is horrible news to me as I plan to join AMR and Eagle. I went to the ALPA website for AE pilots but I was not able to read the news. From what I could see is that AE pilots are already doing something about it. After AMR has invested millions of dollars in new CRJ aircraft, reconfigurations for First Class cabin, it doesnt make sense to sell Eagle off.
Im sure all the pilots on furlough from AA (even TWA) flying Eagle are not very happy about it either.
Now my question is: What is Eagle ALPA doing about it? have you guys heard anything from the American Airlines pilots' union? I know pilots are very strong and united when it comes to this, so I really hope in the end AMR makes the right choice and keep AE as a wholly owned subsidiary.
Thanks in advance!

AMR has made attempts to sell off Eagle numerous times in the past decade. Carriers like Skywest and Republic have shown interest previously but the deal never worked out because of the terms AMR wanted to impose.
Unfortunately, we as Eagle pilots have zero control or influence on whether they spin us off or not. ALPA has been saying a divestiture is imminent and they haven't supported or protested it since we haven't been told of any details or business model that would be put into place.
The AA pilots haven't been too involved with the divestiture talks since they have enough going on with their own contract negotiations already. Even if they were involved I am not sure they would have any influence over the decision.
The decision to divest us remains with upper level management and the AMR Board of Directors. They are having a meeting in mid-march and will supposedly make a decision about Eagle's future then. AMR isn't afraid to go against the crowd, so hopefully they find a way to integrate us into a part of their core business.
I agree it would make sense to keep us as a part of AMR, but the writing on the wall says otherwise when you look at the rest of the regional industry. All we can do is wait and hope for the best.

I don't think we will spun off, probably divested but not spun off.
Anyway answering your question about their investment in $ for crjs. All the equipment are AMR property, they can hire other company and they will fly the planes.

Don't let this stop you. The airline industry thrives on rumors. If you want to come to AE then come on. PilotJ3 is right. One class can be the difference between furlough and a job. Between Captain and FO. I would say it would be best to be on board before the divestiture than after. If your unemployed/under-employed, what do you have to lose?

Well at least I have some certainty. Thanks 4590
On a serious note, I waited a couple of months before applying to Eagle. Because of that I was displaced to out of the jet and finally to SJU. That was just a couple of months of indecision on my part. Seniority is a brutal taskmaster.

There's not that many that can or would buy American Eagle. There was an article here a while ago that showed American Eagle to be the least profitable regional. I think it said that they even lose money on some of the 40-50 seat flights if not most. I think AMR will just hold on to it and make it profitable.

Eagle is a great place to work as far as regionals go. It's really hard to tell what's going to happen with the whole divestiture thing. We do have a huge amount of waste... a lot of extra managers compared to most regionals.
One thing going for a new hire is most Captains will be leaving for AA in the next few years.
