AirportBusiness.com » Article » Is it time for Eagle to leave AMR's nest?

AMR first indicated it was exploring divesting American Eagle in 2008. But the industry's financial crisis of 2008-09 caused the Fort Worth-based company to table the idea.

Last June, it announced it was taking a fresh look at spinning off American Eagle. It's said little since, other than to reiterate from time to time that the idea is alive.

"There really isn't an update from last time," AMR chief financial officer Bella Goren told reporters Jan. 19. "We're continuing to evaluate our options, and we'll make a determination going forward."

Most of the news about American Eagle has come from updates sent to Air Line Pilots Association members by union officials. In a Feb. 4 letter to pilots, Tony Gutierrez, chairman of the ALPA master executive council at Eagle, said American Airlines officials had presented alternatives for an American Eagle divestiture to the AMR board in November and January.
Gutierrez concluded that the most likely outcome, if there is a separation, is for AMR to set up American Eagle as an independent, publicly traded carrier, with its shares given to AMR shareholders.

A week ago, ALPA said its officials met in late February with AMR chairman and chief executive Gerard Arpey as well as American Eagle CEO Dan Garton to discuss the situation. Union officials were to meet last week with two investment banks that are advising AMR, with more discussions this coming week.

We are in march...all months they say "we will be having a meeting with blah blah blah for Eagle Divesture". I've been hearing this since I started training in november. Nothing has happened yet, and will not happen. Why? Just scare tactics waiting for the senior guys go to AA.

There are a lot of rumors out there, just go with the flow. Go to the company in which you can be HOME BASED or willing to move to a place, and don't wait to get a class, seniority means everything.

If that's the case go to eagle, you will be able to choose which equipment and base you want to fly. For sure you will be somewhere in the middle of the list and you will have about 450 guys/gals below you by the end of the year.
;)

Anyway if you fly for Chitacua will be flying the emb saying "American connection". I think "American Eagle", looks better in the plane.

You probably will be able to get the Crj700, if you really want a "big jet". I'm FO in the emb and like more short flights. The crj is more like a mainline.

Try to live in base, will make your life easier.

You're kidding, right?

"Being more like mainline":rolleyes: has nothing to do with the airplane or city pairs. It is about pay and QOL.

I'm talking about that the CRJ700 have longer flights that the EMB. Not about QOL or Pay. FO pay still the same in both airplanes here at eagle.

Errrr, sorry man... your perspective is still jacked. CRJ700's are nothing like mainline. Distance of route flown should not ever fit into the equation of what is "like mainline". Since Delta fly's a 737 and MD80 from ATL-BNA, and Comair also fly's the same route with a CRJ-100 does that make the CRJ similar to mainline?!? My thoughts exactly.

I even created this account solely to warn you away from Republic. I have been here since '07 and I cant begin to tell you how bad it is here. I dont know what it is like at Eagle, but Im sure it must be far and away better than Republic. That is all. Good luck

Really?????:rolleyes:

This guy has clearly never worked anywhere else. I've been here since 07 as well and there absolutely some issues but they are heads above other jobs I've held with other companies and airlines as well. If I had to say Mr. one poster is nothing more then flame bait.

I am not recommending either. Frankly if no applies at Republic it betters our position at proving to the company that we need treated and compensated better. But you have to do what's right for you.

Seattlepilot;
I would reallly appreciate a chance to talk with you about working the regional life (not Horizon) out of SEA. I'm considering a couple of options, and have'nt done the commuter thing before.

Maybe easier on PM;
