Default Travel During Training?

For you guys that have already gone through training with a regional, what is the typical schedule? Do you get any time away for family, or is it a straight through type of deal?

If you wanted to head home for the weekend do you get any travel benefits?

Depends on the company. Unless you have a short flight and many options for getting back and forth, I'd probably recommend staying in city and studying with your training partner. Missing a training event because you couldn't commute in is pretty much a "thanks... pack your bags and leave" situation.

There are usually short breaks between indoc/ground school and Cockpit procedures training, then another break between CPT and Sim training, then another between SIM and IOE.

At XJT they gave us positive-space (meaning you have a seat, not standby) travel during training whenever you had long enough to go home. Very few restrictions as I recall, just don't abuse it obviously.

@ TSA they recommended us to avoid it if we can...as they don't look kindely when you are stuck someone and can't get home but ur still in training....they kinda think, if you can't be here now, what are u going to do after being hired and have "real" freedom?

SKW is pretty helpful with positive space. But your priority at any airline training event needs to be the books.

I agree with Rick. If you really value the job you have then stay and study. If you need a short break make some friends in your class, after all you will be working with them. I didn't go home during my training but we attended M-Sat so it was really impossible anyways. You could also consider this training for being gone......FOR THE REST OF YOU NATURAL LIFE!!! sorry had to throw that out there.

Our schedule was Mon-Sat as well, with a Sunday or two thrown in there. Trust me, you'll be penalizing yourself if you travel anywhere during training. Sit in the hotel buried in your books. You'll need all the study time you can get. Plus, they told us if we missed a day of class for any reason whatsoever (including not being able to get on a full airplane) we might as well just send our books in and pack it home.

If you can go home do it. It will make it much easier on you mentally but don't "push" it either. Also lots of people are talking about studying. Don't get scared there is lots of memorization but its "light" stuff mostly just numbers ect. Focus on your Limitation and memory items as well as your profiles ect. Don't wast your time learning how many steps are on the airstair door. I know some regionals don't even have orals anymore so that can make life easier.
