I haven't been able to play this video in its entirety, but it is indeed for real. I'm not entirely sure of its intentions, but from what I can gather it's the MAG MEC's attempt to satire the situation here at Mesa. I'll provide more of a review when I actually see it, but I'm all for taking a "jab" at the cr@p that goes on here. And anything can replace the "professional standards" video that is shown during ground school (which is more like the "duck-and-cover" propoganda films we used to be shown in grade school!)

As for sleeping on airplanes, I did it once during IOE (a testament of things to come!). It's isolated to PHX (mostly for the late night standups out of LAS). A lot of trips start at midnight in LAS, and from what I hear it's not uncommon for a trip to lauch out from LAS at 0100, get into a place like BIL at 0300, and have a 0600 departure out of there. Basically a stand-up overnight where it just doesn't make sense to wait for the hotel van, get to the hotel for an hour, and then come right back.

...which is yet another reason why I have never bid PHX.

No there is never a good excuse for sleeping on an airplane unless you are protecting it (or yourself! ) from bad guys. If the "lean over" is that short that a ride to the hotel doesn't make sense, than the company needs to at least have a quite room with a proper "Lazy Boy" type chair (and blanket!). No professional pilot or FA should sleep on the floor of an airplane. period.

Totally agree. And by no means was I attempting to justify such horrid scheduling...just to point out that it does indeed take place (and is not an urban legend of sorts).

My feeling about this type of trip is that it's just an accident waiting to happen....just a matter of time before it does. Just like we were taught during our primary training, be prepared for something to go wrong at any point in the flight. I have a hard time believing that a crew that started their trip at 2000 the previous night, had four legs before getting into wherever at 0300, and then launching out at 0600, would be capable of dealing with an emergency situation.

And I've always questioned how comfortable the passengers would be if they actually knew that their crew had to resort to sleeping on an airplane for a couple hours prior to departure. I've said it many times, if there was a reality show about Mesa crews, I guarantee there wouldn't be a passenger on board any of our flights.

....hmmmm...on that note...anyone here got a camcorder to lend me???

Some folks bring blankets, pillows, and a piece of padded plywood to bridge the gap between aisles so they don't have to sleep on the floor. If you see a mesa crewmember carry around a piece of plywood, now you know why...

Nope. Actually what I would do was take a foam seat cushion from another row and wedge it in the gap, it provides some support without hauling around the plywood thingy.

I stand by my previous comment regarding sleeping on the jet.

Hey Dckozak.........we do that here @ FDX. Many of our domestic trips do it and not all of our outstations have lazy boys....

Do it all the time in TPE an ICN and KIX.......I have had to sit in a VAN on the ramp because an awaiting crew took our airplane.......and our catering
