You'll need 100/100. As for being noticed, go to one of the two pilot job fairs we have coming up.

Off topic, sorry.

For those of you flying the CRJ, what would you suggest for a headset?

Lots of threads on headsets in CRJ's. Do a search.

I've changed the title to reflect the OP lives in Los Angeles in the People's Republik of Kalifornia.

To the original topic, I was fired from SkyWest (under a policy that no longer exists) and I would recommend SkyWest.

Can you talk about it? Just curious, I've heard lots of people getting fired from skywest. Someone told me they fire more people than all other regionals combined.

Been discussed ad nauseum here. Do a search. I was a failed EMB-120 (from CRJ FO) captain upgrade. The policy was automatic and immediate sacking, which is not the case now. And, no, that won't rehire me now. I've asked !!! Also, I believe I was the VERY LAST ONE FIRED UNDER THAT POLICY (AUG 11, 2008).

Overall, yes they do fired many compared to other airlines. One famous firing was reversed with an expensive court action.

SkyWest attempts many terminations per year, as does every airline, and the larger you are the more it happens. Many deserve to be terminated for reasons such as sexual harassment, drugs, alcohol, etc. Almost all of the BS attempts fail and the pilot retains his/her job, but a few have slipped through the cracks for the courts to deal with... and they do, usually not in SKW favor. In all very few end up walking and what they did would have caused their termination from any union or non-union shop.

As i understand it the "Up or Out" policy TW's speaking of was implemented back in the 90's by an old Eastern pilot who achieved a high position at SKW. I've been told the guy was a real.......well not a "pilots" pilot if you catch my drift. The policy was never reversed cause nobody cared enough and those terminated were hushed as they were shown the door. You know, "out of sight, out of mind" equals no uproar from the majority. After SKW implemented the new shortened foot print for RJ FO's who upgraded to CA (trying to save money) the failure rate increased dramatically and the company took notice at how much $ they were actually losing. It was the money that caused the company to back peddle. Unfortunately good pilots like TW were let go and became victims of an out of date policy by a rogue pilot supervisor.

SkyWest is a good company, one of the best, but without representation rogue managers can implement BS policies at a moments notice and all we can do is b1tch and CYA in a major way. SAPA does about as good a job as they can do in this department and the SAPA rep (RJ) we have running the discipline committee any union shop would kill to have.

Note: I'm sure someone will use this posting to criticize us for remaining non-union. And although I am Pro-Pilot-Union, attacking SkyWest pilots (again) will cause them to become emotionally angry with you which they will then relate to all union members creating an even steeper uphill climb we organizers will have to face. So PLEASE, If you have nothing positive to add please reframe as you are hindering our efforts and damaging our creditability. Thank you.

Damn I knew we did that at C5 (if you don't make the upgrade, you're gone). I didn't know that virtually no one else did.

Is the ATP written required by Skywest?

Also where is the second jobfair? I've only heard about the ORD one.

It was TWA, not Eastern. Several very good f.o.'s got fired under this up or out policy. One in particular had been a chief pilot up in Alaska before coming here, and got very sick during the upgrade process, even went into the hospital. They pushed him to hurry up and finish up before he was fully recovered and even though he didn't feel up to it agreed to come back sooner than the doctor recommended and they canned him...REAL NICE

Thank you for the clarification. I've only been here for 7 years so obviously what I repeated was word of mouth from several Check Airmen. They probably said TWA and I just thought Eastern because we have and have had several ex-Eastern pilots here in the past.

I'm glad the policies gone and I'm sorry guys and gals like “T-Dubba” fell victim. I've spent time with him and I can honestly say he's both a highly skilled pilot and a fantastic guy.
