Probably be grandfathered in, and probably be a ridiculously long period of time before these rules actually go into effect (giving the airlines even more time to prime the pump by hiring 250hr pilots).

sooo...let me get this straight. If you want to work for a regional, you need 700 hours if you have a degree...if not...?

And why isn't the FAA concerned about the rest periods/hours a pilot works and the pay they receive?

The airlines are trying to contol the economics of our profession. As a capitalist, I can't blame them. As a pilot, I'm angry. While I don't think there will be a pilot shortage anytime soon, by allowing lower standard pilots access to the cockpit it seriously offsets the law of SUPPLY AND DEMAND. We pilots stand to gain a lot by a shortage in the form of pay and benefits. If we allow there to be lower standards in a time of low supply, we'll be totally hosed. I urge everybody to take a good look at Multi-Crew Licences to see the future if we allow this to happen. It takes the power out of our hands. Trust me when I say this, but if the airlines were at all concerned with a shortage, they'd offer more pay. And one more thing, if there is this big shortage of workers for the future, why is it I haven't heard of a lawyer shortage?
THERE WILL NEVER BE A SHORTAGE OF WELL QUALIFIED APPLICANTS FOR WELL PAYING JOBS.

There is no pilot shortage. Only a shortage of pilots willing to work for $24000/ yr.

How can we (pilots) stop MPL from happening in this country? Id like to stop 8hr overnights and 16hr duty days too while we're at it...

I'd love for this industry to return to being a respected and highly sought after career, but the airline management teams are the ones who control the puppet strings these days.

They aren't just allowing college credit to supplement flight time; they are allowing "enhanced" training to reduce the minim time from 1,500 to 700 hours. How long will it take ATP to call their zero to hero program the "Enhanced Flight Training Program"?

Because the FAA is in the hip pocket of big business. When push comes to shove, economics trump safety by allowing corporate interests to reinvent the concept of "safety" to that being something economically viable.

Big business owns our government and just about all our politicians, so this is predicatable. When another pile of mangled and charred body parts is piled up somewhere, they'll order more wine and shrimp and investigate for a few years until the storm blows over.

Just another day in the U.C.A. (United Corporations of America).

Are you kidding me? This is GREAT! Lower the supply of pilots, maybe then when the airlines begin to hurt they will begin to pay us reasonable wages.

Perhaps it will restore some of the prestige to this profession.

BRING IT!
