I never said a dollar an hour was a huge raise on seventy seat rates. Here is the point for those of you that are not in the industry and have no clue what is going on. Most companys are paying the same for fifty and seventy seat rates. TSA was offered a dollar a hour raise and they said no. Ask what Pinnicle was offered for seventy seat rates....ask what psa accepted for ninety seat rates...ask what skywest gets for seventy seat rates...ask what mesa gets for seventy seat rates and on and on.

They were offered a dollar an hour more. They said no. Here is the biggest...no so well known..point of all. The contract was in negociation when we were in ground school and we were told that DM signed of on the deal.

One more point.....the company had to hire off the street because they couldnt pull 100 pilots off trans state for training and still operate their airline. When the contract was signed....as all of us believed....we knew that we would fall behind the tsa pilots that bidded the sixty six seat lines and we were all ok with it. You can't blame us for it all going to hell....we thought that the contract was a done deal because DM accepted it.

I think DM played a game and lost and now he blames us. It's too late for that.

I doubt I am the only one thinking this but this is something we have all seen before as CFIs. Rationalization!

FYI, I work for TSA

flynavyj 10-13-2006 10:10 PM

so how did we at TSA agree to fly 66 seat aircraft if we have it in our scope that we can't?

Or were the people simply offered a chance to take a job at a startup, ego airline such as go-jet, that they knew they would be shunned for.

I know individuals who made the jump, were cpts at TSA are now cpts at gojet, the transition wasn't easy, and to some extent, still isn't.

One hundred percent incorrect. GoJet hired off the street because they couldn't get Waterskiers to jump ship, plain and simple.

WRONG...alot of TSA pilots are flying in GJ...
Including 13 year TSA captain/Check Airman
ERJ captains and F/O's
The number I believe is over 15 pilots..and counting
TWA...American Eagle..Pinnacle..ASA..!
So all of them are scubs.....
Let me think..they were in companies where ALPA was their union and guess what..they left for what they think is better
Nobody can judge them or understand why
As far as the pay...tell me what is the acceptable pay for 70 seaters...
Look at skywest pay and compare

Who said Skywest's pay for 70 seaters was acceptable?

Oh man, 15 pilots! That's a lot more than the ones who DIDN'T jump ship and chose to work for a respectable company instead.

What pay rate would TSA pilots have thought was fair for the 70 seaters?

I did a quick study of TSA pay vs. United (the middle pay of the United, AA and US):

Pay rates are shown as $/hour/pax for a fifth year CA

United
757/767 .31-47
737/320 .81-1.02

TSA
ERJ145 1.25

those numbers show exponetially higher pay rates for smaller aircraft. If we plot those numbers out (#pax vs pay) the pay rate for the 70 seater would be around $67 an hour. If tonnage is used vice pax, the rate is even lower.

$67 an hour is a bit higher than the $64 gojet pays fifth year ca, but what were the TSA folks asking for and what was management offering?

I am not trying to spin anyone up, just trying to understand the dynamics.
