Default Getting hired without US passport?

I am working as a CFI and are slowly but steady approaching the magic 1000/100. So it is time for me to start sending out some apps to the airlines. I am from Europe (Norway), and did my training + instructing in US. I have a US permanent resident w/work permit. I have seen some airlines require us passport and some dont... My question is if it's a problem getting hired without a US passport/citizenship?

if you're not a citizen, a drivers license will probably not cut it in this day and age...some airlines do not require a passport, but jesus christ just get one. it's not hard to get

Unless the airline you are interested in is in the CRAF program, i do not believe a US passport/citizenship is required. I could be wrong but....

I think you'll be fine with what you got, TSA will do a background check on you anyway but whoever hires you will take care of that

Why not try for a European Airline? Thier minimums are lower, the pay generally better, and you've got the right to work in the EU.
Just get your JAA tickets...

I'm one generation too far removed to get Irish citizenship, otherwise I would've gone there 6 years ago.

SAS still does an ab-intio program. I think Swiss and LH do as well.

Default Not that hard, just a pain

You can get hired at a airline without a US passport. There are plenty of "foreigners" at all types of airlines. It's a pain in the butt however, because everytime you go to training, the airline has to do a thorough background check on you again because it is required now since 9-11. Since those guys (hijackers) were taking flying lessons on a simulator before they did something stupid. Now, you as a law abiding person are paying the price for their actions.

What I mean to say is that there is a lot more paperwork involved since you aren't a US citizen. Some airlines don't like to deal with the hassle of all the paperwork involved, so yes it may be a little more difficult for you to get hired here, but it's definately not impossible. Get your app. out there and see who bites. Enjoy the paperwork!
