Commuters: beware UA/CO carry on policy
#41
About 7 or 8 years ago I was on a DH on a UA 777 from ORD to IAD, then scheduled to operate a flight 30 min after block in. I was one of the last to board due to full flight and the gate agent wouldn't let me down early. Naturally no overhead space. They also wouldn't gate check/valet tag it for me to pick up at the gate in IAD. I went up to the cockpit and told the guys what was going on and asked If I could stash my bag and flight case in their closet. The captain refused. I told him about my 30 minutes before I was supposed to work a flight and really didn't want to go to baggage claim. His response was basically tough luck. Thankfully the lead FA heard what transpired and she let me put my stuff in their closet.

777 from ORD to IAD? My gosh how things have changed...
I dont know about you guys, but my flight case fits perfectly underneath the seat in front of me laid down flat (though it severely limits legroom). Couldn't that be considered my "personal" item, then have my overnight back up in the bin, and be inside the 1+1 rule? Obviously if you also have a small duffle then there might be a problem.

Been dealing with this for a while. Im to the point where i wont take all of my bags on board even if the gate tries to let me. If they want this policy, they can have it. Every flight after a deadhead im scheduled to fly will be delayed due to this. No skin off my back. The more flights are delayed, the more likely they are going to start using common sense.....or maybe not

The overhead bins on most 767's and 777's flat out suck as far storing bags go.

Second, only working or deadheading Inflight Services or Flight Operations co-workers are exempt from the 1 1 limit.....
.......This flight bag exception applies only to mainline co-workers.
