ALPA's President Duane Worth ousted!
Woerth loses North American pilots' union election
Wed Oct 18, 2006 5:54pm ET
WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (Reuters) - The largest airline pilots' union in North
America elected a new president on Wednesday by a narrow margin as members signaled unhappiness with steep concessions and lost pensions at big carriers.
Duane Woerth's bid for a third term as chief of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) was upended by John Prater, a Continental Airlines (CAL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) captain.
Prater won by 920 votes out of 47,968 ballots cast by commercial pilots, the union said.
More than half of Woerth's tenure coincided with the industry's most tumultuous period -- the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and the financial collapse of some of the biggest airlines in subsequent years.
But the disintegration of industry leading contracts and pension deals, as well as wholesale reductions in airline operations during bankruptcies at US Airways Group Inc. (LCC.N: Quote, Profile, Research), UAL Corp.'s (UAUA.O: Quote, Profile, Research) United Airlines, Delta Air Lines Inc. (DALRQ.PK: Quote, Profile, Research) and Northwest Airlines Corp. (NWACQ.PK: Quote, Profile, Research) provided a platform for Prater.
Woerth, a former board member at Northwest, was not available for comment.

Ellen, here is another fresh story I saved you the trouble of posting.
1969: Man takes first steps on the Moon
American Neil Armstrong has become the first man to walk on the Moon.
The astronaut stepped onto the Moon's surface, in the Sea of Tranquility, at 0256 GMT, nearly 20 minutes after first opening the hatch on the Eagle landing craft.
Armstrong had earlier reported the lunar module's safe landing at 2017 GMT with the words: "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."
As he put his left foot down first Armstrong declared: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
He described the surface as being like powdered charcoal and the landing craft left a crater about a foot deep.

What amazes me is that she continues to post around here! I can't remember, save a post or two, where she didnt catch a whole bunch of flak for her opinion. I would think that with such negative feedback I'd just stick to reading the threads as opposed to actively participating in them.

I post these things BECAUSE NO ELSE wants to share information. Maybe you are an ALPA supporter and don't want these newbie pilots on this board to see that the ALPA union members hate their own organization so much that they vote out thier president. This sends a big message to those wanting ALPA. YIKES Run for your lives . . . .

Get Real Ellen. Your junior Mgt training is showing its true color. Just because Duane Worthe was voted out doesn't mean we hate our own organization. When President G H. Bush (i.e GW's Dad if you are old enough to remember) out of office in 1992 did that mean we all hated AMERICA? The answer was no.
BTW several post backl I asked you if you were a Pilot and who you worked for? Well???
