Running a corporation HONESTLY isn't very difficult. There are many layers of people doing the actual work and the CEO simply chooses from the options that are presented by his minions. (experience)
Frankly, if a 2-yr FO can make his personal budget work...he can run a billion dollar corporate budget. its just extra zeros and common f-ing sense.
its just math.

Precisely. Im an airline noob. the name isn't "idiot"
I know about business. I know about decision making and critical thinking.
I also know about making excuses instead of making progress.
And I know about waiting around for someone else to do something.
Its easy to dismiss my comments as the delusional fantasy of a "noob" who doesn't know how things "really work".
Or...you can take a critical look at the situation and at each component....a systems perspective if you wish....clearly it doesn't "really work"
Now...you can stand there shaking your head, staring at it and saying "it don't work", maybe someone will come look at it and figure out whats wrong, then order the part and tow us to the hangar and.....
or you can pick up a screwdriver.
Doesnt matter to me. But it should matter to someone.

Only problem is that with aging CRJ-200s, poorly written CRJ-900 contracts, and a glut of training, no matter what you do, where X is income and Y is expenses, X<Y. Doesn't matter if you create the dispatch and crew scheduling committee and they workforce free. The hemorrhage of cash is too great. Been there, thought about it, almost lost my medical from the blood pressure. These are not the droids you are looking for.

Yup. thats the problem.
But it aint gonna fix itself.
And there doesn't seem to be anyone interested in doing anything other than point at it and say...."Yup. there's the problem right yonder. MmmmHmm.... sho-nuff."
To continue my metaphorical meanderings... Nobody could un-do the Titanic captains various poor decisions that led them to the iceberg. But....if the ships pilot had turned BACK to the iceberg after hitting it instead of coming to a full stop more than six miles away....they would have had a lifeboat the size of a MOUNTAIN.
In our profession we pride ourselves in critical thinking...problem solving...staying calm and ACTING even in the face of dire circumstances.
Why aren't we?

Well...gosh... I reckon my proposed solution would be to Apply for the CEO job with the proposed solution in-hand and ask:
NOW can I fix the problem?
Kinda like I suggested from the very beginning.
Now your homework assignment is to google circle-jerk and contemplate how that scenario applies to people trying to get something DONE.

I didn't suggest buying the company...or even a controlling interest...or any interest for that matter. Yall have enough invested already.
I suggested having a member of the union leadership step forward to occupy the position of CEO and provide the leadership and direction that they criticized SM for lacking.
The ground work has already been laid with the counterproposals they supposedly made for saving MORE money than SM said would be needed to save the company.
Just Do it.
It is easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission.
