do captains on the regional level get a livable retirement? or do they not get a retirement at all? Does the company take x percentage of your paycheck and put it in the bank? can you request this? thanks.

The majority of current regional pilots will retire as future domestic SNJ (Small Narrow-body Jet) captains making mediocre bucks and weak 401(k)'s they'll have to fund heavily themselves.
Wingtips has a brochure with more details courtesy of the high-fiver's club. PM her and perhaps she'll email you.

Retirement? Whats that? An application for unemployment?
Beyond a 401k with a small match (2-6%), there maybe some flight benefits, but don't get sick or hurt because there won't be any medical coverage.
Seriously though, invest 10-15% of every dollar you make starting at a young age and you should be OK.

Hickspilot... the awnser is no... I do not know of any regionals that provide retirement. You are left to figure that out yourself. Most do offer a SMALL 401k match in the ballpark of 5% of what you put in. You can pretend that Social Security will be around but fat chance on that. So... lets just say for easy numbers that you averaged $75,000 per year at a regional for 30 years and wanted to retire and you had been putting in 5% of that with a match that was a generous 100% of the first 5% you put in. You put in $3,750... the company puts in $3,750. So you save $625 monthly for 30 years and lets say you could get an average of 8% return for those 30 years... You have $1mil... dont spend it all in one place...

This is flame bait, but I have to respond. Most RJ captains make plenty of money to save for retirement. It is a good wage, invest wisely, and you have nothing too worry about. You are entitled too nothing. Earn it.
