Can we fix our problem?

The cost is less in the direct out of pocket expense of purchasing more flight time, than in the additional time required to attain 1500 hours of TT. Goodbye ads that claim "0 to the Airlines in 90 days!" Spending a year and a half on your career training is probably going to weed out a few who are now getting through it in a Summer. (Yes I know almost no one does it in 90 days... but the priciple still holds).

and I stress current) good companies. But there are plenty of slots open at the regionals due to attrition etc. I can't speak for grounded but It looks like he's speaking of the regional kind IE Mess-a.

There are a number of posts attempting to fix the undercut of the industry. It appears all would work with varying degrees of effectiveness.
1. Fix the longevity scales (I think "hate2breakit2u" has this one)
2. Get paid for your time (see thread pilot pay supply & demand)
3. Require an ATP for FO's at any 121 operation
4. Alpa to pay more attention to the bottom instead of the top (The problem here is dues $$$)
5. Change public perception of the "overpaid pilot"
6. Finally the "Don't work for xxxxxx airline rants" (probably the least effective in the long run)
The answer is yes we can fix our problem. The question is.... do we as a pilot group want to?

This is already starting to happen. I think we will see good things from the new leadership. According to my MEC, the new ALPA president (Prater) sat with them at dinner during the conference in Las Vegas. He also sat with other MEC's from other regionals. It was the first time in ALPA history that had happened.

So...How to begin? The 1st step (iding the problem) has been done...
