Delta Management as well as Delta Pilots said so.

They do have a pay scale for the 900 and starting pay at the end of this TA is $70 FO and $127 CA. But they also know that if they allow the regionals to fly them Delta can make more of a profit which in turn gets them a better contract. Only the junior and future Delta pilots would probably fly that and so it does nothing for the mid to senior pilots except take away possible pay or better work rules.

Management asked for 325 82 seat jets in our latest negotiations. Our negotiators said absolutely, but they'll be flown by mainline. Management said no way. So no sir, Delta pilots did NOT say NO to flying large RJs.

And yet they still agreed to say YES to more 76 seaters without having to park the 70 seaters. They didn't stop the out sourcing of them at all. Saying you want them and fighting for them are 2 completely different things. And DALPA didn't fight for them.

Is this how the conversation went?

Management - "we'd like to have 325 82 seat jets"

DALPA - "sure, we'll just fly them"

Management - "no"

DALPA - "ok, we tried"

Or maybe this

Management - "we'd like to have 325 82 seat jets"

DALPA - "sure, we'll just fly them"

Management - "no! but how about you give us the same airplane with 76 seats?"

DALPA - "hmm.... ok but only if you park some of the 50 seaters"

Management (amongst themselves) Don't they know we don't want the 50 seaters? Who cares just jump on it. (Back at DALPA) Fine we'll park some 50 seaters. Man you guys drive a hard bargin.

DALPA - Phew, that was close. At least we didn't give up the 82 seaters. Don't forget to tell the pilots that we did ask to fly them.
