Must be preparing for "the merge".

Quite some time? When he started at Comair, Walter Mondale and Gary Hart were fighting over who would get to run against Ronald Reagan.

Hulas meets or EXCEEDS FAA standards.

That's all that matters, and that's what will be reported in the newspapers.

This industry is a joke.

Not to confuse the issue with the facts, but:

G7 has been hiring a lot of pilots. The prevailing theory from people I know there is that their contracts are being expanded, i.e. they're getting more Delta flying. I believe that was the original question. However, there has been no official announcement to my knowledge. Every other airline I've known of has been too fast to furlough and too slow to recall, so it seems very odd to overstaff an airline. Personally, I believe something is going to happen soon, and they wouldn't hire people if expansion were merely a hypothetical. Perhaps they have to prove they already have the staff before they get the flying, I don't know.

In other news, someone asked how many United pilots had been recalled. That's easy: 0. There are 1,437 United pilots on furlough. Something like 200 of them have taken jobs at Continental, and they still have recall rights to the other side. There's still no JCBA, though it's been years, and DAL can apparently get something done before their current one expires.

SB got mixed reviews from pilots at OH. Some liked him, some did not. I thought he was a decent guy, but I have heard stories of him questioning command decisions of PICs with regard to deicing, extra fuel, et cetera.

The one quirk he had that will perhaps travel with him to G7 is his starting of rumors. I wish I had a nickel for every rumor I heard attributed to him that never came true.
