Is it wrong to wear your uniform around on days off?

well playing a round of golf in uniform would be pushing the edge of the envelope.

If the regs allowed the wearing of a uniform to certain places outside of work - the uniform would have been worn according to regulations. If that means with tie and jacket buttoned up - then again - YES.

I would probably do what you do if it were a situation I found myself confronting. No problem being a guy in a white shirt and pants.
I see where the bit that you bolded could have been misinterpreted.

If you're going to wear the uniform, wear it properly. Don't walk through the airport with your top button undone, or your tie off, or whatever other amateur combination you come up with.

I guess I’m an idiot even more because I do have my tie on neatly, fully buttoned up and my shoes in good shape.

Well I guess some of us don’t mind wearing our uniform in public looking like idiots and some are embarrassed.
Nobody is asking you to change your entire outfit to pick up a carton of milk, but you look pretty silly at the cashier in your uniform.

Like I said above, if you wear the uniform, wear it properly, so well done I suppose.

I don't get the guys who live in a place like NYC and take the 1 hour train ride from their homes while in uniform. Then they wonder why people look at them weird.

This is just me but, who cares? So what, the cashier thinks you're a security guard, maybe the captain of a cruise ship. Odds are, you will never see that person again in your life, and if you see them regularly, they probably know that you're an airline pilot (cause pilot nature says we'd tell them within 2 minutes). I do agree, if you're going to wear it, dont look like a dumb@ss doing it, cause you just make yourself look like even more of an idiot. My point: do we really need (another) a thread about this?

*Cue discussion about backpacks, ipods, and earbuds*

BTW, is it acceptable to go to the laundromat in uniform, strip down, throw it in wash/dryer, take it out, put it back on, and walk out?

It's likely most folks could care less if you're in line in uniform with your milk, eggs, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I don't do it nor care for it, but as far as it looking silly...no. I've seen firemen, EMTs, LEO, military and doctors all at the register and don't think any less of them. Now if it's downtown Orlando on a Saturday night...
