FYI, I am not about "give me give me give me" or what other generation you are speaking about. I have my views and you have yours. However, I don't mind paying a fee for a job fair. But is a job fair worth paying $90-$129? Some companies decided at the last min not to attend and if I wanted to attend to specifically to meet a recruiter from that particular airline I am now screwed.

If you choose to spend $350 for a job, thats your business. I can care less. I hope you got hired......LOL. I have earned every dime I have in my bank account and every achievement I have sought out for. So go preach to someone else about earning things in life buddy. But never the less, my views are still the same when it comes to this topic about the jobs fairs. Are they worth the amount of money that is being charged for admission. Knowing the beginning salary of a regional airline pilot. My 2 cents

 

I think it's sometimes a little hard to put in words what you are saying, and I think that I feel the same thing. If I go to a job fair, I want those companies to be hiring. I don't want them there because they *might* need new pilots in a year, or if they are a major airline there just to prove that they still exist or something, I want it to be a real job fair. I want them to at least be interviewing (not necessarily at the fair, but that's a bonus and possibly a deciding factor of whether to attend) and calling back people that handed in resumes/did face time at the fair. All too often it seems like 2-3 airlines are "hiring" and the rest are just there as "fluff", especially the bigger or better ones. There are sometimes several government agencies or industry entities that have no idea how to help you get a job with them, they are just there to say "go to our website", as if we can't find fbi.gov on the internet or something.

They can be beneficial, you can get lucky, if you are just looking for any job at all, it could be worth it, but I echo the idea of if they are worth it knowing the beginning salary of an airline pilot.

 

I guess the answer is..if you go and get a job that you wanted...its worth it, if you go and don't... maybe its worth it, but if you dont go at all.....you may never know.

My thoughts are sorta like JNB..... it needs to be a full on job fair to be worth it ... if most of the companies are just screening resumes..... probably not...ymmv

 

Had you worded your original remark this way I would not have jumped your Sh$%. You did not, you stated thats a lot of money and not even guaranteed a job. That there says entitlement. I am frankly sick of it!

I get it, its a lot of money and you should have asked if its worth the money to attend and how much success can one expect vs not attending.

Well aviation is the messed up industry and most job fairs are employers offering free stuff and trying to get in the door but aviation is pilots offering money to get in the door and employers may not even be hiring
