Found this little gem while studying for my type ride....

(b) Except in cases where circumstances or emergency conditions beyond the control of the certificate holder require otherwise --

(1) No certificate holder conducting domestic or flag operations may schedule a dispatcher for more than 10 consecutive hours of duty;

Say what?!?!? You can only sit on front of a computer for 10 hours but I can fly 70 people around for 16 hours?GMAFB

Well there's a loophole on that too. That only applies to LICENSED dispatchers.

Many airlines will use a handful (or even one) licensed dispatcher per shift...these folks the supervise a large number of unlicensed data entry folks who actually do the dispatch work. Odds are if you're a regional pilot the "dispatcher" you talk to is not licensed.

If this is true...well...you live and you learn.

There I was thinking that I was talking to a licensed dispatcher.

Does anybody know the training requirement to become an "unlicensed" dispatcher?

Such a lie!!! In order to dispatch a 121 flight, the dispatcher "must" be a licensed 121 dispatcher with the proper FAA liscensing to share "dual" responsibility for the flight in question.

I have super respect for "Rickairs opinion," but Rick, you are dead wrong in this case.

You are indeed correct. Rick is mistaken. Please don't believe in 99% of what you read.

Of course, flights dispatched under 121 Supplemental only require a "flight follower", no license required.
