Skyw's pay proposal....
#2
It's another slap in the face. I have a feeling it will be voted down again, and we'll be stuck for at least another year with the current rates, until the next garbage pay proposal comes out, gets voted down, and so on and so on.
Sad thing is I don't think any player in the regional industry is going to raise the bar. I don't think having ALPA/any other union would have helped us either. The only way it will ever change is if pilots finally decide they don't want to work for these wages anymore, and I don't see that happening, at least anytime soon.

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed myself. I was hoping the $19/hour wages would get a little bit more of a boost than what is proposed. I also find it bogus that the pilots don't get the override if they don't break daily and monthly guarantee. If I'm wrong about that, please correct me. But that is what I've heard about it so far.
When is the vote?

If it bothers you enough, you can vote for alpa afterwards, if you think that will help. But don't turn down even a little free money.

A little free money? I fly the EMB120 and am in my 3rd year here, so there's not even a little money in it for me. Why SAPA would condone any proposal that doesn't include us is beyond me. It's not like we work any less hard than the jet guys, or are any less affected by inflation/cost of living. If this passes, talk about a divided pilot group. So my vote will definitely be no. As for ALPA, still not sure about that yet......

I would be more inclined to vote this in if it were for two years, not four. The minute raise in first year FO pay is insulting. How can they justify paying someone $19 going to $20 in four years? I would be willing to venture most regionals first year jet pay will be around $24 by 2010??? Mesa, CHQ, XJT, TSA are already higher and I would think they would go up by 2010 to substansially more than $20/hour. And of course, how can they not give the Bro guys a raise? What is up with that? I would be surprised if this passed.

perhaps I'm biased based on my current position in the airline, but i dont think pay at SkyWest is all that bad except for first year F/O pay is an absolute joke, and the new pay package did very little to change my opinion on that. If SkyWest wants to continue to recruit for the growth they anticipate, it's an area that needs to be addressed badly. It's pretty sad when TSA has better pay.
