i was based in ALB on the Beech...a MX base
there was 6 FO's
3 Hard Lines
3 RSV Lines
and a few months
4 Hard Lines
2 RSV Lines
Now imagine trying to find someone with the day of you need and being able to swap with them...Most guys get shafted on days off...and when you request days off...Dot Chaplin almost always laughs...She is a coniving one sometimes...
So what I used to do when i couldn't get a day off...Like my college graduation...wasn't go to miss..
I knew i wasn't going to be there and got home revenue with freq flyer miles...
i called in sick 1 hour before just so it would be hell on them...go figure they had to cancel a round trip....HAHAHAHA
i don't like screwing my fellow pilots...i screw the company and i will positon myself and know what they are doing to keep from them getting a call
ALSO there were times where you didn't have RSV's in a MX base because those guys were on TDY
so who does the RSV flying for the MX base...the Line guys...the most senior guys that bid the short day to spend time with their kids in the summer and work their other job because of what they get paid...so a 5 hour duty day turns into 15h 45m at least twice a week the rest will fall aroudn 10 and 12...when you expect it...it is fine...when it happens occasionally...it is fine
but everyday is ridiculous

so do you work the 4 on, 3 off type schedule or are you guys saying you hardly ever get any days off? When you say days off do you mean vacation days or actually days? For instance: if you are flying Mon-Thurs, can you count on having Friday, Saturday, Sunday off, or will you be called into work on those days? How many days off do you actually get per month? I'm just trying to figure out if with this job you are able to do things like fly home and see your family for a few days when you are not scheduled.
