Well, you are a luckier man than I.
I point you to Flying Cheap | FRONTLINE | PBS. And it wasn't just Colgan (nor is it now... look at some of the 1900 or Saab operator threads). |

Sure wasn't luck. I did what I had to do, so did most others. I flew for 9E... not exactly top of the heap, but we did have a union.
I'm done with this. This thread was about on the road food, so here is mine: On the early, Oh-Dark-Thirty shows, I pack premade breakfast sandwiches. Two ounces of sausage, an egg (boiled or fried with a drop of oil) frozen, and an English muffin. Nuke the egg and sausage, and toss it on the muffin. About 350 calories, carbs and protein. Swap out a slice of cheese if you wish. You don't need to get up early to eat, and you can brush and floss before you get on the van. (Oral hygiene is big with me) |

Yeah I'm not sure of any company that can or will deny a crew meal break. You must work for the true bottom of the barrel. We literally have left the airplane 20 mins prior to go get a subway and eat on the other side of te airport. Never heard a word, and I work for eagle.

I agree with 80kntsclamp, plenty of healthy options at the airport. I pack 2 cut up rotisserie chicken meals with veggies and rice for the first couple days. For breakfast I back a cup of oatmeal, apple, and the 25 grams of protein muscle milk. The chicken saves me from buying one meal a day the first two days. Beyond that I don't feel like dealing with keeping my food cold/worrying about food poisoning.
I always bring plenty of snacks to last the entire four day. This plan has allowed me to drop my overnight expenses per month from approximately $300 to $180. (Mint.com has me treating myself as a corporation) Nice to see how everyone else goes about packing lunch. Shout to the folks that pack every meal. I tried that and I started losing energy from being hungry and feeling sick from day 4 ppj/deli sandwiches/tuna |
I do not post often...usually read and SMH..I see limited value for post of "how good I have/had it, or how poor I have/had it" unless it is an opinion thread...this topic is simple ...not really for the "look at me crew" ....this is a SIMPLE thread for valued ideas ...I like the ideas for those that put in the effort to stay on topic, hope to see more ...

Trust me, as the guy sitting next to you while you eat out of one of those tuna packets. They do stink and I am gonna look at you wondering why you have to stink up our shared office that way.

Luggage works Aurora. Less than $30 if I'm not mistaken. Bought it almost 2 years ago so I'm not certain on the price, but it's been worth every penny.
