No it doesn't seem logical. If you have no intentions of going to the interview then there is no reason to apply and turn down the interview. Your logic would have me applying to Walmart, 7-11 etc just for the heck of it. The OP answered my question though logically since he said it was an old app that he couldn't delete.

I wouldn't apply unless you at least sorta consider going there. The reason being.... if you turn them down, you very likely won't get another chance with them. Who knows, at some point in the future you actually may want to try to get that job. But if you've already burned that bridge, its no longer an option.

Well then, I guess I am not doing it right then. I have applied to Eagle, XJT, Republic, Jetblue, Alaska, and Air Wisconsin... Of those I have interviewed at Eagle and Expressjet, have and interview set up at Republic and I am trying to set up one with Air Wisconsin. So of those XJT put me in the pool and I am waiting for a formal offer from Eagle. So with your logic, I am just suppose to go to one interview. Wait it out, only for a company to say no, or better yet wait in the pool and pass up other opportunities. So with my logic, I have some options, I know which ones I ultimately want to go to and if they offer me a position I can politely decline an interview. And if they do not over a job, I can still interview with the next company. When you go to a job fair that you pay $150 to go to do you only go to one company? Or do you go to them all to see what they have to offer?
Mythbuster- I found it an unusual situation and was curious why the time was invested on the apps but it makes perfect sence now. Crewchief was nice enough to answer.

Just seeing that there are people on here with 10,000tt applying at Eagle should tell all you guys looking to get into this career how big a mistake you're making... No matter what the people at your flight school are telling you... There will be no pilot shortage..
3000+ people just applied to Jetblue for 150-200 jobs... I'm not gonna even get into the numbers for Spirit and Virgin. I cant wait to see what the numbers are for Delta when they open their window for 150 jobs..
