Default Do HR departments read these forums?

If I worked for an airline HR dept, I would.

Just curious to know what you folks think (or know).

I know Delta does. So I assume others do as well.

I'm sure most HR departments do and hope other departments do as well.

(hmmmm, could this by why one should always watch what they post on an "anonymous" web board? Even if you come to your senses and delete it----it's still out there forever.....)

I suppose if they are bored and need a good laugh.
Probably would never admit to it though. Would you? LOL

HR depts usually don't have to go looking for problems etc. Folks working for a company seem to keep coming up with enough ways to keep them busy enough.

Yes they do and they can relate the IP address from which you posted to the one you submitted your application under. They are indeed on these forums.

Also for people interviewing at Eagle, remember there are cameras in that waiting room area and some of the applicants are HR people incognito seeing how you behave.

Never put anything on the internet you wouldn't mind HR or the company seeing. Airlines are very image conscious in the post Colgan world. I know a guy who lost a pretty good job opportunity because the airline found his web page and he had a photo from his fraternity days that showed him going overboard with adult beverages.

I wouldn't be worried about regionals so much, but you can bet a legacy carrier will take a look at your history on the internet.

They cannot see your IP address.

Even if they could how many of us submit applications on the road?

The rest of your post was spot on, most companies start the interview the second you interact with a company employee...gate agent etc.

Moral of the story...just be a good dude and you'll be fine!

Yes, safe to assume that many majors do, and some regionals as well. If for no other reason than some of the interviewer pilots and even HR staff are interested in their industry and come here to see whats up.

Hard for them to get your IP address without doing some (probably illegal) hacking though.

Personally I view APC as kind of a neighborhood bar, I don't exactly expect folks to maintain the same level of professionalism that they would at work (ie it's OK to vent within TOS limits). Much as I might want to, I would not hold someone's APC opinions against them in the real-world. Well maybe, but only in extreme cases where someone's mental stability was in doubt.

But I wouldn't bet on everyone else making that distinction. We've all seen what happens when exuberant off-duty behavior and even personal opinions that used to be perfectly common, but under the radar, makes into the public realm via facebook, etc.

If you're still upwardly mobile, probably best to either be on your good behavior...or be damn sure that there's nothing in your account or what you post that can lead back to you. Remember, there's no "burden of proof" or "reasonable doubt" here...if someone even suspects you might be "that guy" odds are they'll hold it against you.

Heh heh, the obviousness of my troll post was lost. Of course they cannot see an IP address and unlike what hollywood has us believe, an IP address is pretty useless.

Very true on the fact interview starts well before the interview - all emails, calls or employee interactions should be considered.

Generally, yes because most public internet service providers rotate the address of your router frequently. So they probably would not be able to pin you down based on at-home internet use...especially if you force an address update by rebooting your router daily.

But if they wanted to make the effort, you can easily find out who owns a certain address or block of addresses...this can lead them to your home internet provider, the hotel you stayed in last night, your employer, or even the airport public wifi you use a lot. Your employer probably has a fixed address if you use their computers or wifi.

So they can narrow things down a bit if so inclined. I haven't heard of any airlines that go to these lengths, but there are certainly employers who do.
