I'll call it a rumor (don't know how factual it is), but I heard at SkyWest that the number of pilots with a 4 year degree runs less than 50%.
I've got a BS, AS, and an AA. 3.7 GPA, but I was also kicked out of HS in my senior year, finishing up with at the Adult High School with a GPA in the 1s. Which one would you focus on?

"C' student or "A" student, It is just another way to sift through qualified applicants.
Quit complaining about the criteria hiring departments choose and go into business for yourself if it is such an issue to you (and I don't mean you personally NISX).

How much flight experience did the Capt of KLM 747 at TENERIFE had ????
How many checkrides had he busted....???

In the Colgan case, BOTH lack of experience and because of checkride failures. He should never have been in the left seat that night. As for Capt. van Zanten, he had the worse case of get-home-it is, given their already long duty day with the diversion and he made bad decisions to get out quick. By all accounts he was an experienced pilot, but I'm not sure how many checkrides he failed.
