What I said was a bit of an exaggeration. However, since the age 65 rule i have never personally witnessed anyone get hired into 121 with under 1000 hours. I just remember when they came out with the ATP rule. When it was first brought about there was going to be no way around it. 1500 hours firm.

Now they came up with the Restricted ATP, lowering much of the ATP minimums. Which is good that they have done it, as I didn't really agree with it in the first place.

Instead, why not just require everybody to have 1000 hours to get hired. What good is a Restricted ATP, can you serve as a 121 PIC with a RATP. Simple answer, no. It only allows one to serve as a first officer.

Just my opinion.

Exactly. I'm not sure why people feel the need to exaggerate so much. Just post the facts - or as close to them as you have a good indication of. Leave the exaggeration to Sky

Now let me see if I have this right. Since the age limit was raised 65 years old - you do not know (by personally I figure you mean FIRST HAND) anyone hired with less than 1000 hrs? How about second hand? On this very forum there have been numerous stories of MANY people getting hired with far less than 1000 hrs.

No....when it was first envisioned it was a hard 1500 hrs. It has just now been 'brought out' in its' first legal form and it has plenty of unfortunate cut outs included.

I don't why the numbers are what they are. There is an awful large group working together to figure out those finer details. Representatives from just about every known aviation group/entity have a hand in that law.

I have over 1600TT but only 350 x-country. I am currently enrolled at ERAU and have 119 credits towards my BS in Professional Aeronautics (scheduled to graduate in March of next year). Im not sure if any of the new rules would apply for me to be eligible for the ratp. Do you think it would be possible to get hired with those times? Thanks in advance for the info!
I can't recommend enough going to Amerifligh to fly some freight. The single pilot, 135 IFR is an amazing experience and will hone your skills and make you appreciate the airline life when you get there. Just the opinion of a Preskit ERAU grad currently an FO at SkyWest but I wouldn't give up a thing for the PIC turbine time and fun flying I did there. At least go check out their operation before making your choice.

My indoc class (back in 2008) had 22 pilots in it. 3 of us had over 1000TT. 5 had between 500-1000TT. The rest had either wet certificates or barely above that. Just adding to your point that the age 65 rule barely made a dent on total time. Atleast at the regional level.

Totally agree.

Most airlines will understand if you tell them that you are unavailable until you graduate. I would start interviewing in NOV/DEC for march/april classes. If you can get credit at ERAU for passing ground school at the airline (internship type credits) or some other thing then you might be able to graduate while you are in ground school.

That's a good point and I've never thought about that. I will definitely ask at ERAU if any credit can be given for 121 ground school. Considering I am only 9 credits from graduating (BS), it might be of good help. Thanks!
