Yes.

It is a type rating with second in command limitations. Many air carriers limit type ratings to vmc circle only. Does this mean that a pic type rating with vmc circiling limitations is also not a type?

I see what you are saying, however I am under the mentality when it came to applications that if it asks if you are type rated you would say no if you are only SIC typed.

Like Al said, it's pretty clear.

If the aircraft type is in the "Ratings" portion of your airman certificate then it's a Type Rating.

The "Limitations" determine your privileges and therefore what you can log and claim.

Yeah, it's just the FAA complying to ICAO shenanigans, but as far as airlineapps is concerned, if it's 121 then yes the aircraft requires a type rating, and yes you are type rated in the aircraft if it appears on the back of your certificate. Your time grid, employment history and resume will flesh out the details.

I mean, did anyone here miss the part where a PIC type is now required for SICs in 121 ops. I don't have an SIC limitation since I took my ATP ride. Sheesh. It's black and white folks.

Technically, the PIC type isn't required until 2016. An ATP is required now, so most companies just combine the two (since it's the same checkride). Some pilots went to the regionals already holding an ATP so they're good for another two years and change with the SIC limitation.

Not so black and white. At the last second, they gave an extension to the type requirement to Jan 1, 2016 for compliance:

All SICs in part 121 operations must have an aircraft type rating for the aircraft to be flown. This requirement takes effect for all new-hire pilots beginning August 1, 2013. For those pilots employed at a part 121 air carrier as of July 31, 2013, they have until January 1, 2016 to comply.

Is this a serious question? If so, how did you manage to get a pilot certificate in the first place?

It was a serious question. I don't know why, but when I was updating my stuff today I basically over thought the question from my original rational understanding. I need to make sure my app is perfect when DL pulls my SSP number, especially since I turned down Spirit!

Some of you are reading way to far into this. The OP simply stated "does the CRJ require a type rating?" Has nothing to do with the PIC vs SIC type arguments.

Is it a turbojet? Does it weigh over 12500? Does the back of you certificate say CL-65?
