Who knows what they do with that kind of info. Maybe they consider it a "risk item" because someone who has bad credit may be desperate for money and be easily coerced by a few grand (in which case most airlines need to rethink their payscales QUICK!). Or maybe they'll sit you down with a plate of waffles. Who knows.

Airlines routinely allow people to start class before they complete background checks...they don't like to spend the money on someone who may no-show their new hire class. They have to have the checks completed prior to you flying the line, so they have 6-8 weeks to get that done while you're in training (it usually takes 2-3 weeks max).

The also routinely invite people to leave during groundschool due to background problems; it's crappy since now you have to try to get your old job back...

I agree about the credit checks for the mail, that is my understanding also. Every airline carries mail occasionally. However I have experience with military security clearances and I suspect that having a lot of debt due to being a starving student/cfi is not necessarily a problem, they are looking for ridiculous debt levels relative to your station in life or massive defaults indicating drugs, gambling, or gross irresponsibility.

I'd think you'd have to have a pretty horrible credit rating to get thrown out of class. I'm pretty sure I forgot to write down a ticket I got like 6 years ago (I've never checked out my NDR and they never asked) and I'm still around. So unless you're dropping 200K a year on hookers and blow, I think you'll be ok...

It's rediculous to think they can base a decision on employment via a credit check. Credit has become EVERYTHING in life and it's getting out of hand.

Shifting us to a society of numbers. Like this D#$ch bag on tv asking if you know what your credit score is. People cant help to have unforcasted medical expenses placed on credit cards which reach thier limits, then in turn have thier rates increased all while trying to pay off an astronomical non-fed student loan. Guess we should have all sold out to the man, sold insurance from a cube and look foward to casual fridays.

They can cut down on buying a new car or bar tabs. Well some can. My bar tab will stay put.

If anyone is actually looking for a truly FREE credit report from any of the 3 credit reporting bureaus.

http://www.annualcreditreport.com

Check your FICA score on there as well.

We have been discussing this issue for the last couple of days. All I have to say is this: I have been through bankruptcy and I was hired by a certain brown airline. If you have a so so resume and are an idiot on the interview, then maybe your credit MIGHT hurt you....but I hardly think that they even look at it(why would they? it makes NO sense). .......unless, of course they are giving you a job and a mortgage for your house.

case in point...if they only hired people with perfect credit.....they wouldn't hire anybody at all!! Don't worry about this; it is a waste of time to think about it guys.
