I was told by many older guys that airlines DO check for credit. Based on the age of these pilots, I'm assuming they were referring to the majors. Also, they were hired 10+years ago so I'm not sure if it's still a common practice.

So are you and spongebob saying that in addition to the majors, LCC's, regionals, & Part 135 operations check your credit as well?

All I am saying is that many older pilots told me to keep a good credit score since the "airlines" will check it. Since all of these guys are either captains or retired captains at major airlines, I'm assuming they referred to their experiences when they got hired at a major.
I also read on several airline interview prep books that credit scores are checked. Something to do with the argument "if you are not responsible with your finances, then......"
Kinda like driving records I guess.

I dunno but it is a good possibility. Well I am glad I have an xjt job cause my credit has gone to **** the past year. But lets not kid ourselves fellas, I don't care if you are the cheapest bastard in the world it is very easy to get buried in debt only making 20k a year, the airlines know that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I said, I think it is tied to the mail, and the background check required to carry it. A US Gov't clearance requires a credit check, as being heavily in debt or spending way beyond your means and NOT being in debt are "risk" factors. Same reason for the long application, and residence/employment history that you have to fill out. If the airline hauls the mail, and you can't get cleared, that can lead to termination.
For the Frac/135 Operators, you are probably going to be issued a company credit card....
If you have concerns, get your annual free report and check it out.

Depends on how fast they can get background checks done. I have heard of many flight attendants being asked to leave after they started training because of background issues. One guy in my class at XJT was also let go at the end of the first week for "background issues" (thats all that was said, after that he disappeared).
