Why the Hell whould you want to drop that many trips.. for petes sake you are are pilot if you dont like flying that much then get another job and get out of the industry.. I am tired of people complaining about pay and how messed up this company or that company is why would you work so hard for a job just to try to figure out a way to not be there..
Actually this kind of thing can be beneficial to the company...they don't have a steady work load all year round. Also, they will never let a pilot drop a trip if they can't cover it. DEC is peak travel season, plus some or many pilots may time out for the year so they need every warm body. JAN is pretty dead, plus all the time outs have had their 1000 hour clocks reset so if a few pilots don't want to fly in JAN, great! They can save them for the following DEC...
If you don't voluntarily drop anything, but they don't have enough work for everyone, then they still have to pay your guarantee. If you voluntarily drop stuff, they can pay you less and cover the flying with a reserve pilot who they have to pay to sit around anyway. Hmm that reminds me, I think I'll go skiing now.

Thanks to all that replied!
rickair7777, that makes sense....I never thought about it. I guess JAN schedules are going to be pretty "light" then...
I like having options. Life is not all about flying.

You might have to. You do not get guarantee if you are totally timed out either. But they would never force you to fly that much...that's something you have to deliberately and agressively pursue for 10-11 months to get the hours. Also the extra time you picked up earlier in the year was at x1.5, so you made more money than if you had flown the same 1000 hours on a normal monthly schedule. You made more, and you get a lot of time off around the holidays.

Dear Santa,
I would like skywest to become ALPA and get a solid contract so everyone competes on the same level.

You'll never get your wish, even if every regional was ALPA represented. Second, before you worry about SkyWest you better concentrate on Mesa, TSA, Pinnacle, Mesaba, etc. Oh, and Santa doesn't exist. He's just an old guy in a red suit.

If I was at skywest I'd be p!ssed that the company was doing this. Here we get guarantee even if we time out. I'm appalled the companies pilots would actually go for that.

A few SKW time-outs not getting guarantee is not going to change the economics of the regional airline world...
