Default SIC Type Rating

Does anyone know what type rating the regional carriers are giving the new hire first officers? A normal PIC or the restrictive SIC type rating?

Full PIC, that is what is required by the new ATP rule that went into place. Then another rule goes into regs next August which will change it around even more.

Pilots pursuing an ATP certificate after July 31, 2014, in addition to having 1,500 hours, will have to complete a new, yet-to-be developed, ATP certification training program. The program, consisting of 30 hours of ground and 10 hours of simulator training, must be completed prior to being eligible to take the ATP written and practical tests. The 10 hours of simulator training will include six hours of training in a level C or D (full-motion) simulator. Thats in the new ATP rule that just came out a few months ago. I also hear that it will be in a sim for an aircraft over 30 or 40,000lbs

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you take your ATP written before July 31, 2014, you don't have to take this ATP course correct? Also, does anyone know what happens if you already have more than the required amount of regular sim/Level-D sim time logged?

Thanks

Pretty sure it will include a syllabus of required maneuvers in the sim specifically for your new ATP, not just being able to log your previous PC's/Cat II/new hire training for it....

I cant help you out with either of those. I just hit ATP mins and taking my written as soon as the GVT reopens . I will pay for my own ATP in a seminole if I have to so I don't have to mess with the sim and ground course.

Same here. I just want to really know if there is a cutoff more so. I've taken the ATP written already and it's two years expire at the end of June 2014 (going to have to re-take it before my ATP ride since my flying really flat lined for a while and I'm probably not going to hit 1500TT before July 31, 2014). I was told that you should be exempt from this if you take the written before July 31, 2014, just trying to get some type of confirmation on that info. Can't imagine what the sim time is going to cost. The old (and not very good) 767 sim at Pan Am runs you about $300/hr IIRC

This is such a joke. I believe they are really trying to kill the part 61 path and replace it with the sham called part 141. I'll save that one for another day!

Thats the other part of it, it says only 141, 142, 135, or 121 will be allowed for the sim courses. No part 61 to avoid flight schools from creating their own programs.

See, the sim time I have is 121 (757/767), which included a LOFT. All logged and signed as such in my book. Was put in a very "lucky" situation to get it a long while ago.

I guess I'll just have to wait until they publish the rules unless someone has more info.
