Great Lakes pilot supply by all accounts has dwindled with very, very few or perhaps no replacements. Can a Laker confirm this? If that's the case and as additional pilots find greener pastures, the situation at Lakes will continue to build up steam in terms of larger and larger numbers of cancellations.

At some point, perhaps "management" will consider discontinuing a city or two. Shrinkage until no longer existing is their only option as we know Lakes "management" will NOT consider raising pay.

I'm hopeful that the remaining Lakes pilots will find greener pastures sooner rather than later and let this horrible company die.

I had a sloppy logbook that did not make me look too good and I may not have given the best interview. But the number of pilots who showed up and the number who went home spoke of no existing shortage. If there were one, and it was just me who lost all those job offers then ok, I can handle the truth. I have fought and won other battles and I can take it. But seeing what I have seen this last year I sincerely think these companies get plenty of applicants and are being picky for whatever reason. Republic in particular, 7 guys showed up the day I did my interview and all went home, guys with jet types, active 135 pilots, lots of good stuff. The claim they can't staff the 400 simply does not line up with what I saw there. As far as I am concerned there may be a massive shortage any day now and I hope there is one; but it has not arrived yet.
Cubdriver....

THIS:

FLYGUY 94: "I applied to 4 regionals and within a few days all had contacted me and scheduled an interview. I chose xjt because of the solid contract. Regionals no longer choose the applicants, applicants choose the regional. If you show up somewhat prepared you will get a job offer guaranteed. This was right before the r-atp exemption and I had the bare minimums 1520tt, no turbine, no 121, no 135, no internal recs. "

I'll add that within two weeks after having come of active duty, with less than 2300 hours- about a quarter of which is in helicopters- I had invitations for six (6) interviews. By week four, I'd been flown out for two interviews and recieved an offer from one w/in 24 hours of returning home. Still waiting for the other one. In one interview I was not asked for my logbook, in the other I tried to show it to them and they barely glanced at it.

I've no doubt that your experience was actual and factual, but what a difference a year makes.

.....how will it be next year ??

Jet Airways (indian carrier) just announced hiring DECs for the -777 with a JFK base. It is the first US pilot base for any Indian carrier.

Guys I am done arguing about this point, it's like trying to convince a kid to give up candy on account of better nutrition. All anyone here has is anecdotal data. I hold out hope for a real shortage at some point possibly near and I also think a light shortage along the lines of "those who will no longer work peanuts" has already occurred to a certain extent. Wages at the regionals are not on par with other jobs of similar merit, and the word is getting out gradually thanks to message boards like this.

Let's be clear....
You are done arguing a point based on your anecdotal data because it has been challenged by far more recent anecdotes.

<shrugs> Okay.

Good luck, dude.....

No, no no. Cubdriver's points have all been validated, every single one, by my recent experience. His experience and my experience are alike, as are the experience of every I know who's been on the hunt in 2013.

Anything else is made up, and I don't care enough to question their motivations. No phone-only interviews, none of that, and I don't care who says otherwise. I really don't.

I'd thought about getting back into the mix (just bouncing the idea around) so I sent a resume to Frontier (haven't sent resumes to any regional carriers, as I'm not willing to do the regional grind again) and a week after submitting my application I received an e-mail from Republic inviting me to interview...I've politely declined.

My resume only has 20 hours of recent experience, 2500 TT, about 1800 hrs (121), 400 Turbine PIC (121), current desk jockey and part time CFI.

I'm pretty sure right now if you ran around your house with a model airplane making engine noises, that's all the experience you need to get a call from Republic. Not saying you'll get hired but you'll get an interview call. I've had friends well qualified for even Spirit or Allegiant go to Republic but I've also known of peers with multiple check ride busts, DUI's, criminal records, open LOI's get interview calls as well. I think it's safe to say Republic is an airline having staffing issues.

JohnnyG, his friends and Cubdriver might want to take a look at this;

ATP Flight School: Republic Airlines First Officer Interview Prep Program

Oh, you can get the call. I'm not disputing that. They interview MASSIVE amounts of people. A tiny minority get the offer. If they were having staffing issues the number would be higher.

You're helping the race to the bottom by telling anyone they are having staffing issues. Not only is it not true, it's ridiculous.
