Actually saab, your posts made me laugh. As I recall, I stated that RJ drivers WOULD(slash.....) NOT SHOULD. Anyhow, do you think that it was a false statement? You guys will work for a nickel, what should earn a person a dollar. It's sad. And to say that you can't blame the pilots is farce. If you accept a job flying a 170 jet for 20 dollars an hour.....you are part of the problem..NOT the solution. I was thinking this morning: the only TRUE "regional airlines" out there are the likes of: Great lakes, Colgan, mesaba, and a few others. The rest of you guys are "replacement airlines". BTW, I know that I have been given breaks because of my gender. If the shoe fits....... "it's good to be the king"

Bass slayer? Not even worth reading? Why? does the truth hurt? You guys look at the "regionals" as a "stepping stone". 5-10 years ago, they were indeed. Now, they are a final destination(whether you like it or not). I just thought that it was funny that SOOO many people were happy about DAL hiring. whoop dee doo. Don't get a false sense of security. As another INTELIGENT post indicated, they have NO scope clause. Shuttle America and Skywest will be dipping their hands in that pot. And IF the usair deal goes through......forget about that gig(carrer at DAL). It aint happening. The bottom line is this: You can get all wet over the "majors" hiring, but honestly:anybody that has "express or connection" airlines "feeding their route structure", has no future(i.e. UAL CAL DAL NWA.etc etc) Those shiny 170, s 190s and CRJ 900's ARE your future. If you want to fly Boeings, go to SWA. They are the only TRUE airline who hasn't sold their employees out to the express guys. (ok, maybe a couple others)

I love how your posts make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So much positive energy. You are just a ray of sunshine.

You laugh and judge our stepping stone. Tell us about how you climbed the ladder? Something tells me it will be like this:

"I got my PPL after only 185 hours! After another two hundred hours of dual recieved, I got my instrument rating! I got my other ratings all in one checkride, but the funny thing is we never flew. It was a ground based performance review, if you know what I mean. I then went to weight watchers, because I heard UPS need more women or they will get in trouble. Can you believe I lost 85 pounds? Anyway, I went to the UPS Christmas party. I had a few drinks, and the next thing you know it was two days later!! Man, I don't know what happened after those drinks but I woke up with a training date and an ice pack between my legs!! I am so lucky!!! Now I love my job, everyone respects me. The brown pants make my ass look like a side view of one of our delivery trucks, but thats the only downside. I gained my weight back, plus an extra hundred, but it's ok. I make six figures and get to talk sh*t to the people who actually are earning their flying positions. Sucks to be them!!!" -HotMamaPilot

I don't know and don't care about anything in this thread. I do know what Freightpuppy's qualifications were when she was hired, and hers (along with all the black males) were equal to or better than all the white males hired. If anything, pointy-nose military pilots got a windfall, but that's neither here nor there.

HMP, may I ask what airline you flew for prior to UPS?

If you post on this web site, you've agreed to the Terms of Service. "Freedom of Speech" is something to take up with your civil rights lawyer - but I can tell you they don't apply on a privately operated Internet forum.

I've asked you in private to keep it civil, now in public, I'll ask you again to keep your dialog on this forum reasonably professional.

I closed the other thread, because you insisted on dragging the discussion into the gutter and lowered yourself to petty name calling. This was clearly in violation of the forum terms of service. If you have something to say or have a problem with the way the forum is administered feel free to email me or return the PM that I sent.

This thread has more stink to it than my cats litter box after a 6+ day trip !!!

I don't really care how HotMama got to UPS ... you should be MORE concerned with getting YOURSELF to a major OR improving your careers at a regional.

This bitterness for one person will get you nowhere. One of these people that you annoy might be sitting across the table at your next interview ... wouldn't THAT be uncomfortable.

If she's 33 and made it to Brown ... good for her ... wish it was me. Maybe I'll be just a few years behind. SO WHAT !!!

When I got in this business in 1989, there were NO guarantees of making it anywhere. As a matter of fact, COMMUTER (AKA "regionals") jobs in DHC8s, 1900s, 99s, 360s, etc required 3000+ TT and approx 500 ME turbine ... now folks get into a shiny RJ with what - 1000 TT ? GOOD for them too !

Point is, enjoy what you have, set realistic goals about your career, and work like HELL to improve the conditions at YOUR airline ... its the ONLY thing you have a little bit of control of. And enjoy the ride ...

NEXT ...

I was refering to the topics at hand. I've done the regional thing for a decade and now I'm at the majors (737/757/767). I've been a starving FO and starving CA. I've been in turbo-props, RJ's, and Boeings. I've seen people fail their upgrade and then get hired a month later at American. I've seen a person who ran a king air dry and land off field make it to Southwest. I've seen an F-18 Marine airshow pilot not get selected by United, while three of my instructors (I was chief instructor) got hired straight into United with less than 800 hours TT.

BTW, I only know two pilots personally that got hired at UPS. One was senior to me in the ATR and one I trained on the RJ. Both were women. I'm not stating anything by this. I simply know two people (women) that got hired by UPS. One DC-8 and one B-747. Good for them. They were good pilots.
